Really though 400 miles m8... that double what i get.

No mate, my best 1/4 to date was set with this gearing at it'll still pull low 4's to 60.

At the risk of dragging this further off topic...

Exactly how much IS juice in the UK at the moment? Last time I was home was just after xmas and petrol was creeping up from about 90p/ltr.
Is it over a quid a litre again now?

Regarding fuel consumption of the Beemer, it's a well-known fact that smaller engines on BMWs does not make for better fuel economy. Even the factory figures show this. The only thing to consider is if the difference in insurance is bigger than the fuel saving.
And how fast you want to go, of course. ;)

I get 550-600 miles/tank on motorway trips. To give you an idea of how little work the engine is doing, I've managed to also need to fill up after about 310 miles after a few days of "spirited" driving.

I guess that's the thing about the MR2. It is, by it's very nature, a revvy little roller-skate which is always gonna be harsh on your pocket. Glad I'll only be using mine on weekends. :P

average price of optimax is 98.9-109.9 now :(

I've has a fair few beemers myself m8 325i auto and a 735i auto, The 735 was a pee take and returned around 13-15 mpg around town and might creep up to around 20-22 on motorway.

Cant remember what the 325i did..... my old man's just bought a 328i convertible so we'll see how well that does on the old gas.....

I wouldnt say a bigger motor is more friendly on the pocket.... ive had a 4ltr wrangler and that did 40 miles on a tenner

Sorry for going of topic. :-#

if you want the good stuff its over a quid a litre but thats only from main retailers like BP and Shell. i dont know what this new tesco stuff is but ive bin told that its good.
Ive also signed up for a pipeline card which if it ever takes off they say you could save upto 7p a litre i know it dont sound much but it doesnt cost anything to sign up and every litle helps

I will capably return 350 miles a tank (LMAO!!!!!) on my NA if I am a bit careful with the go pedal. But I do have a superchip which seems to have helped mpg by about 30miles extra to the tank...

;)

i am sure i only get 30 miles and a tenner! lol... i got no idea why it goes so quick, it definately uses less fuel on optimax than it does on premium though, so i wont use anything other than optimax anymore
