I've owned a rev 2 and rev 3 N/A, and both did around 250 miles to a full tank

(about 26 mpg i think).

There are lots of N/A owners

(and even tubby owners!) who claim to get significantly more miles to each tank

(300 or more)

- I want to find out what the difference is!

The way you drive is probably the most significant factor, but even with some very very gentle driving I haven't managed to improve things much.

Equally, other people claim to use their right foot quite a lot and still get good economy.

When I bought my current car I improved my economy drastically by setting the ignition timing to 10 degrees BTDC

(it was about 0 degrees when I got it and ran like a dog), which is the Toyota standard setting.

Perhaps it should be less advanced for 95 ron fuel? Does anyone have 3SGE manuals to confirm this?

(I only have the tubby BGB)

I don't think my current spark plugs have the recommended platinum tips

- could this make a difference or will copper plugs just wear out more quickly?

All suggestions and discussion welcome!
