Got my vote as well matey

I think even if it was just narrowed down to a EMS forum then had subs like motec and powerfc.

Re: PowerFC
We do have copyright issues here if a tuner has provided a map guys.
Unless you yourself have done the mapping or have permission from the tuner to publish it we couldn't really go down this route.

if you pay x amount for a ems to be mapped by a tuner surely the map belongs to you when they have finished

cheers carl
Re: PowerFC
Yh this is true toni

When you pay for mapping you take rights to the map but this is what my tuner says.
I know others put locks on the maps so that people cant access it.

i think that we should have the forum but only posts maps if the user if given permission.

If you do own the map I will add a facility to add it to the garage profile.

Re: PowerFC
Fantastic news, Is there not a chance of have a EMS forum where people can talk about ecu probs and mapping in there
Re: PowerFC
It's just that I've seen arguments on GTROC over who owns the map, it's a bit of a
'mare!

I would see it as you pay for the use of their map? You buy the ECU they put in/create their map which they spent time doing, plus years learning the skill to be able to map it.

If enough people did this there would be a decline in there business.

I am sure plenty would.galvanics wrote:
i doubt a mapper would really care if you posted the maps.

What happens if the map isn't right for you car? then something goes wrong.

Re: PowerFC
Woudn't all maps be different though? surely it is best to get the car mapped on YOUR engine characteristics not somebody elses?

just my 2p.

just my 2p.

Well exactly.

Re: PowerFC
i agree different cars
+ different mods
= different maps so why worry about people copying them
, i think the idea was to put the maps on so people with similair set ups can get there car's going and then fine tune it themselves.
if you decide to tune yourself and it goes pop you can only blame yourself

cheers carl

I think what it comes down to is the mappers work.

Would you?

Also if you are a top mapper, it would mean your competiters have the chance to gain your map, seeing how you do things.

See it from their POV.

Re: PowerFC
All exactly my point Enis.
A lot of work goes into a map, I suspect 99% of tuners would be
very
unhappy to have it just published.

Re: PowerFC
Anyone checkout the legal aspects of this?
I dont see any copyright laws on my reciept for mapping and was definately not shown/signed any other agreement.

Re: PowerFC
Have you asked the tuner?
They may have a sign in their workshop or similar for instance.

Re: PowerFC
Well my mate
(who is a top mapper) is totally against this.
Everyone he knows in the game is the same.
I wouldn't do it.
But when you guys get you cars mapped askt he mapper.
"sorry mate just to let you know, I'll be sharing this map with other MR2 boys" They'll either be like
"ok no probs"
(and do a crap job) or say no you won't lol.

Re: PowerFC
There is not alot that can be done to stop this, they can object to it but as there is no signed order in place you are free to do with it as you please, you have paid for the map!

Besides, do what I do and map the thing yourself, much more fun and as I proved on my
'2' i got better MPG and better BHP results than a well know tuner managed.
After I sold my
'2' I bought an Evo and fitted a Power FC again, on standard boost settings I have gained 70 miles on my tank and the off boost pick up is far cleaner not doubt the top end is better also.

I liase a bit with other owners sharing info and maps quite freely, it makes for a better community.
