I had a new gearbox fitted

( SEE OTHER POST'S

) The muppets at the garage did not fit new driveshaft seals so i took it back they fitted new ones but they fitted one the wrong way round

& damaged the other when fitting it

( COST ME

£80

) anyway i fitted new ones myself but i need to know how far does the seal go in, is there supposed to be a gap behind the seal of about 2mm or is it suppost to sit flush against the inside of the driveshaft hole, I have a small gap in mine, I used a large socket to push the seal in place then gave the socket a few taps with a hammer to bed the seal in but there is still a gap, I dont want to hit it to hard incase i damage it, When i put the car back together and took it for a run of a few miles i can feel a bit of oil just a damp feeling on the inside of the plate that sits against the driveshaft hole, So i really need to know if i have to hit the seal harder

& bed it in or if its ok

& im just worrying for nothing.

It would be nice if i could get 1 weekend were i was not worrying about this bloody car,I think my car must have been owned by our local bus company before i got her as ive had 3 years driving her without a problem

& then 5 come along at once
