Ran At Crail Yesterday

Post by Daveb »

Went up to crail for a bit of fun on the quarter mile yesterday.

http://www.crailraceway.co.uk/select_ru ... e=20060409

Was a good day, only got beaten by a modded 32GTR and crazy bike on Nos, the 32 was only by a car length too. Beat a GTS, brand new corvette and a few others.

Best I managed was a 13.537 though. Kinda disapointed. Id got a 13.598 back when the car had a standard intercooler and fubitsubo exhaust. Was hoping for better with the mods the car has now, nur spec, hks intercooler and wi etc...

Did get 3 13.5's though so at least its consistant. The 60fts werent good, I was just wheel spinning so 2.5sec 60ft. When I got the 13.5 before it was under 2sec 60ft so might get a little better in the future. :| My speed is up a good bit though, best before was just touching 100, now 108.

With your 344bhp you should be trapping at around 115mph. With a good 1.8 or lower 60' time be around 12.6 1/4 too.

When I got the 13.598 before back in August 04, it was a 1.963 60ft time.

Would really like a 12, even if it was a 12.999. Might have to let someone else drive the car though. #-o

Hmmm, would be an interesting launch leaving the car in first with the engine turned off, flooring it and turning the key :-k

But we've had discussions about Dave's power output before.

how was the weather there ?

i went to elvington yesterday and managed a 13.69, better than i managed at York last year, but still not good enough ( i too want a 12.999). My 60's were all in the high 2's, except for that 13.69 run (it was 2.212 on that one) and trap speed of 101 mph. On other runs, i had worse times, worse 60's and up to 106mph trap speed. (oh and i got a 0.00 timeslip from when i set off early ... so even that didn't help LOL) ... there was a red mr2 running as well, and after it got really wet, we just ran against each other and let the 4x4's have their fun.

i got trounced by a yellow evo III on my first run ,,, like where's he gone, no that can't be him finishing already ????

and had 2 runs against a turbo'd crx - he beat me on our second bash, i just pipped him on the first. Somebody turned up in an integra type r with racing slicks on, but all he managed to do was waste some expensive rubber i think.

The ab-flug mr2 was there, but not allowed to run as it was a bit over the noise limit (limit 105, his car was 112 ) - i just made it with 103db at 4500 revs.

Power has nothing to as such with 1/4 mile times but everything to do with trap speeds. I was trapping at 110 on 310bhp, so 344 should be seeing around 115.

Well I was getting 108. So if my reaction time is shaved to under 2secs I wouldnt be far off 115 Mr Edwards...

Doesn't work that way mate. You could have a 60' time of 2.0 or 2.5 seconds and still trap at the same speed.

With 1/4 mile, times reflect 'your' ability but trap speed reflect car bhp.

don't really agree with that. trap speed varies dependent upon driver skill. i saw trap speeds vary by about 8 mph yesterday ... my lack of skill at shifting at the right point to stay in the power the contributing factor.

I'm sure a "regular" drag racer could keep consistent speeds, us normal folks, we can and do see a difference.

doesn't the weight of the car and driver come into play too ?

2 mr2's, both 310 hp, one weighs 1230 kg the other 1350 kg ... would you really expect them to trap the same speed after just a 1/4 mile ?

I see what you're saying and yes, it's not a case of you have 300hp therefore you will trap at 100mph exactly, but it is a very good guide. It can actually work out that a slower 60' time will give you a higher trap speed, hence why my time in the 1/4 table i only trapped at 111 when i normally trap around 114-116.

So with that fact in place, if Dave, by his own admissions, had got a better 60' time his trap speed would almost definately have been lower.

It's no exacting science by any means, but speak to any seasoned 1/4 miler and they will all tell you the same thing.

I thought "Reaction Time" was just how quick you get off the line compared to when the lights go green.. it's got nothing at all to do with trap times or your final overall 1/4mile time.. :-k
