sound systems. lets have a look

Post by moore »

hello, after buying my sexy t-bar last week, i have come to realise how poor the speakers are in the car. They hiss and crackle from the sound of Sarah Cox' voice (probably not suprising). Being a newbie, Can people post pics of their own sound systems in the mk1s aswell any advice for me. I already have a sweet head set, and im not looking for a sub or amp, just some decent speakers, that will fit. Cheers

I'm removing the radio from my car as i dont use it. I bought a set of Sony speakers that I planned to fit but are no longer needed. Would they be of interest to you?

**ahem** please no selling this way dude - please pm each other with offers or put it on the sale board - thx

ok, back to thread:

All you need is 10cm speakers in front and 3 1/2" in the rear.

10cm ones there are loads to choose from eg. panasonic around £25
infinity for the rears around £30

you may find you want a sub or somehting tho' (i've got one of those base tube thingys, so there is still room for tbar glass storage)

mart that is beyond cool. It suits the car so much, I love it. Would never do it personally, but you've hit the nail bang on the head. Cheers for the advice guys, I will have a look at speakers tomorrow. Are they easy to install? Any tips? Oh, and please, Id love to see more ice in mk1s.

On another note, I f+*?ing love my car!!! the MR2 is the funnest toy ive ever had. All my mates are green with envy. Just though I should say that coz I think every1 I know is getting bored with me saying that. :D

I used to belong to the, 'forget the stereo, just listen to the engine' brigade, but on a long drone up the motorway you need to listen to more than just your exhaust. I too thought I'd get away without a sub, but you can buy the best speakers available (that will fit) and you'll still get no bass and pretty thin midrange. They're just too small. in the end I bought an Alpine powered sub that fits under the passenger seat, £140 well spent. It's small but it works.

I can second ,what Karl has said.I've heard it, it sounds good!!
You can get an amp and sub fitted behind the seats and still have room for the tbars.
That's what i've got but i am short legged!
Pete Mason got it sorted for me,he is on here so ask him how it was done!
Loads of base,if thats what you want!

Can I see pics of yours systems so I know what can be done. I aim to fit a DVD player/screen plus whatever speakers. Anyone put 6x9 behind the seats? Mine previously had but think some manufactorers make 6x9 subs/mids?

recommendations?

Post by moore »

Any recommendations for good speakers to use in the front. I dont want heavy base really so amp and sub is out of the question for now. But something with good quality high mid and low would be nice. Any ideas?

or you can go the whole hog and put 2 x 12" subs in the frunk, 5 1/4" in the kicks, 6 1/2" in the doors, 6x9" a amp and 30 band eq behind the seats....

High mid AND low. You don't want much then do you?

I've got some JBL (GTO-425E's I think) in the front of mine, and they're fairly good, but nothing is going to give you good bass from a 10cm speaker. Hence I went for the sub.

Mart - that graphic/head unit combo is sweet! Was that OEM? And is yours a rev1, cos I remember the dash there was a little different (seperate radio and tap player as I remember).

Personally, I have a really old Sony head unit with broken LCD display. 6 disc changer behind passenger seat and OEM speakers all round plus a PANASONIC sub under my ass and it all works sweet as a nut.

I am however considering ditching the big bulky changer which takes up valuable space and just running mu iPod thru the tape player instead....

To true, i am going for a nice SQ install in the mk1, not blow your ears off like my mk2! Havent really looked into the speakers yet.

Here is a quick pic of the sub box i have done to compilment the speakers when i get round to them!

I love the stock look of the headunit mart, gonna need to find something similar to that!

I actually ruled out many subs due to their looks, This diamond audio provides both great sound and stock looks!!
