Dom...

just for the record, i much prefer driving on track too, however i've only had a chance with my Mk2 a few times...other commitments and my car being off the road for a couple of years

However, i do part own a Mk1 Golf with a standard 20V Turbo lump, which is tracked very often! And yes, there alot more skillfull drivers out there then myself i agree and yes i know the trackday ethics 8)

On the other hand, i do like to drag aswell. You try dragging competively and you'll realise its not just about the launch. How about gear changes, knowing where your peak torque comes in, when to change gear, getting all this right in synchronisation and then most imporantly the pressure your under since its one vs one. So there i've corrected you...you were wrong ;)

You should try it sometime ;)

First off....

Dom your way off with your straight line only views on the MKII. So much so that I hope to give you a whopping some time in the future :P

Secondly.....

Now come on Lauren you know you would have the odd 150 mph + run if only you had a car able to do so! Like a MKII for example lol :clown:

Joking aside I think their is a time and a place. If the conditions permit I can not see the harm, however, peoples ideas of a suitable place to do such things vary greatly and I think for this reason the law of 70mph stands for good reason.

GLOL! Mike i have a 325i that stock comes with a 145mph top speed. But i haven't and wouldn't max it out. I had it upto 110 when i first got it. I guess i just don't feel a need to do it.. its pretty boring really.

As a friend once said "So much to lose, so little to gain".

In fact in my last MR2 the fastest i ever went in it was 120mph and that was on the Ring. On the road i never really go over 100mph. For the most part i just cruise at 75-80mph.

Agree there is a time and a place.

A ferrari is the only one capable of it. An M3 is restricted to 155, an MR2 would never get to 180.

it kinda is possible to derestrict BM's ...

so an m3 maybe could get somewhere around there ... unsure on it;'s gearing. mr2 with 22inch wheels could easily top 180, it would just need lots of power and a very long runway ...

so coulda been any of the 3 for 180 on a B road ... a very long, straight, 3-lane B-road that is ..

BM M3 is 171 iirc so doubt it would do it. Only way an MR2 would do it is with a higher final drive ferrari could manage it tho.

I meant that mk2 drivers appear to be more into the straight racing thing, not that mk2's can't go around corners - They can't but thats a different argument!

A moment of madness....if someone had pulled out of a side road, I'd probably have beaten Bob Beamons long jump world record by about 400 yards

Except Bob Beamons walked off the field to rapturous applause and gained an unprecedented level of respect throughout the years for his individual performance.
However you'd just been dead for all your efforts…
