[Mk2 Turbo] Replacing my side indicators

Post by redjgts »

Has anyone got any advice on how to replace these ugly side indicators, or what i can replace them with:

Am I right to say that imports dont have the wing mounted indicators originally? So these must have been added by someone? I have now added the crystal front lenses so I could really do with changing these to match.

The problem is I have no idea what I would be able to replace them with because of the way there connected. I've taken one off and there attached by three holes in the car. One circle hole where the bulb holder comes through, and one small screw hole on either side which is all that holds the indicators on. Looks like they might be some sort of universal indicators that have been added.

Any ideas what I could replace them with?, bearing in mind they need to match the crystal front lenses.

cheers.

Imports never came with wing repeaters. Your indicators should be the toblerones in the wing/bumper side mouldings

Flush them? You mean fill the holes and paint it? Wouldnt that be a bit more work and more expensive than is neccessary. Surely would be a lot easier if i could find some replacements. But do you reckon theres much chance of finding some that fit the holes/bulb holder?

Its not overly expensive, they wouldn't take much off of you for filling them in.

It looks schamoooth though :D

would they not have to respray that hole panel though on both sides? And with it being ten years old they would look a different colour compared to the rest of the faded car colour.

You could just go to toyota and get the UK spec side strips, I believe they'd fit and they come ready sprayed (not that cheap though). I wouldn't worry about the colour match because the side strips already look a different colour to the rest of the body and if they're subtly different to the other side strips I doubt whether you'd notice as they're not next to them... Alternatively from that you could fill and spray them yourself with a can of spray from toyota for about a fiver.

Thats right, the ones behind the front wheel. There fairly big and ugly in my opinion, so I've no idea why anyone would have put them on in the first place. Are they added to many imports to get them closer to uk spec, better for mot's etc..?

sometimes when the car is imported, they (customs/or is it an sva test?) occasionally get a 'picky' and say the toblerones are too low so they have to put on side repeaters in the usual uk place so they are high enough to see!

Damn that sucks! I like the toblerones as it keeps the wings nice and tidy 8)

Aaah, now I get it... Personally i'd just get rid of the jap repeaters and replace the others with crystal ones, they're only about £15? It's got to be the easiest option, i'm sure it'd be a bit of a pain just to fill in the holes.
