RATTLY T-BAR

Post by frew »

Hi guys. Was wondering if anyone has experienced an unbearable rattle inside the cabin of you T-Bar MR2?

It is so loud it should be easy to find but i cant and its driving me nuts!!!

Not entirely sure it is the T-Bar but it seems to clear when the glass is removed and appears to be coming from high up at the drivers side??

The T-bar locks solidly in place and when shaking the removed pane of glass there is no obvious rattle coming from it

Any ideas??

cheers in advance

is it all the time the t-bar glass is fitted?

my t-bar pane was rattling and has just stopped all of a sudden. the bit rattling on mine was the actual handle u pull round to release the t-bar.

mine also started making a stange noise a few weeks back when it was freezing cold. was like the rubber between the glass and the car was frozen and was cracking everytime i hit a bump.

dont know if any of that helps :)

I had the same problem & the way i fixed it was to take out the small plastic hole that the pin for the t-bar fits into & squeeze the end to shut it, It seem to do the trick for about 6 months but it has came back again so i will just squeeze it again, I think it must be the T-Bar pin moving that makes the plastic open a bit at the end.

It may not work for you but you could give it a try.... :D

I too think its the rattle of the pin when the tbar is in.

I just sprayed some wd40 into the hole for the pin and it went away never to return :D

worth a try......

failing that there is a modification you can do (called eccentric rod guides)to improve how the tbar is held in place http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/kb.php?mode=article&k=27

You said that there is a rattle in the cabin and not from the T-Bar from what I have read.

I had a rattle and it seemed to come from behind me but was not definite.

Turned out to be the hinge end of the rod to hold the engine cover up. It is just behind your head. Wound some PTFE Tape (plumbers' tape) into the gap to tighten it and hey presto.

T bar rattles

Toyota sell the replacement plastic bushes that fit into the roof either side as well as the bushes that fit on the T bar roof panels. £15 the lot. Completely cured my rattles. They also sell an off-set adjustable version to compensate for worn/leaking roof seals
