BTM in a blizzard at 4:30pm this afternoon

Post by Don Cool »

Definitely cashed in a "luck credit" this afternoon.

Got a flyer from work in York this afternoon as I had seen it had been snowing heavily for about an hour. Was heading out of town doing about 20mph, leaving 15 yards between me and the car in front. There was about an inch laid but there was decent dark tyre tracks so I thought I was ok. #-o

Anyway, the car in front brakes and I see him sliding. I brake and then I slide. I shout "Oh Bother!" (use your imagination here folks!) and instinctively, I throw it over to the left (coz there was no doubt I was going to hit the car in front if I stayed on the road). Somehow I get a bit of grip and the car doesn't spin and, before I know it, I'm on the muddy verge with thick bushes scraping down my passenger side. Fortunately, the verge was very soft and, with the help of the bushes, I managed to stop without hitting anyone but at the time my mind was screaming "Noooo! I can't afford a respray!"

30 seconds later there's a mini pile up happening in front of me. No one hurt, just a few dings etc.

Anyway, after 15 minutes I managed to get out of the mud with help and I was on my way. I pulled over once I had got the chance, pulled the bits of bush off my front-end and inspected the damage. I'm sure there must be some scratches on the front wing somewhere but if they are they don't look deep so whatever is there, hopefully, will polish out. I won't know for sure until I wipe it down tomorrow.

I've damaged the tray underneath the front as it popped out a few miles down the road and scared the hell out of me by making an alarming scraping noise. Something on the verge must have caught it as I passed over it. I popped it back it and it held for another 30 miles so it must be ok but I'll get it checked over at the weekend.

All in all, a lucky escape (I hope). [-o<

And that was with 1 inch of snow! If this is supposed to be Spring, roll on Summer, that's all I say!

I have checked the paintwork and it I have a scuff on the passenger wing and a couple of light scratches on the bonnet. Nothing that won't t-cut out I reckon :D

On a brighter note, I'm off to get a de-cat tomorrow! Am looking forward to feeling a bit of a difference.. not much, I know.. but a bit!

As unimpressive as my NA feels when I put my foot down sometimes, I'd still rather be behind its wheel than that of a newer, pokier, boring-mobile.
