boost controller vs grainger valve

Post by projectprelude »

Dunno what to go for what set ups do you have??

i like the idea of a boost controller but hear the Apexi unit is very confusing what unit do you have?

Also seems the grainger valve is a fav among you guys have you ever had problems with it? personally i dont like the idea but if its safe i will do it. I presume you run them with an aftermarket boost gauge?

the only advantages i see with an EBC over a grainger valve is the ability to adjust boost from inside the car and having the option of more than one boost setting.I have two markings on my grainger valve both are approximately half a turn apart.During a spell of really cold weather i just turn the screw back to the first marker to prevent fuel cut. This took a little fettling in the beginning but i think its woth it.

I used to have a Grainger valve, & it was okay up to a point. Easy to fit & cheap, but it used to suffer from boost creep.
I have now had an Apexi AVC-R for a while, (well, 2 now since I had 1 stolen), & the main thing I knotice is that whatever boost setting you use it stay's rock solid.
Also goes without saying how easy it is to adjust from the cabin, & how cool it looks.

Hard to understand....no not once you get the hang of things. However it is/can be difficult to set up!

To my mind an ebc offers so much more over the mechanical valve. Put aside all these extra gadgets, and your left with a device that is by far more capable of controlling and maintaining an even boost pressure. This is essential when the outside air temps are up and down all of the time!

I had a Blitz SBC too- not only does it give you more boost, you get boost building a lot quicker- and I have graphs to prove it. also has a warning function too.

After having had an AVC-R and thinking it was rubbish I've been convinced by too many people from too many car clubs that they are, and that this Blitz is the absolute best money can buy. Its the only one I'd consider, gets fantastic reviews from everywhere. edited to say not 100% on model but the top of the range Blitz anyway :D
