Just had my first 180 spin

Post by Dale_V »

:o was going 10mph in second gear around a right hand bend in a carpark, must have put too much power down, and before I knew it I was facing the way I came and going backwards.

Slammed the brakes on to avoid hitting the kurb and swiftly did a U-turn

well there was a petrol station 30 yards away so it's a possibility. But the road was damp anyway as it had just been raining.

I've had the back end out many times, but on this occasion there was just no notice or progressive sliding

Yep there was a couple of cars around on the roads leading to mine. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole car park didn't notice due to the amount of tyre squeel trying to get the thing to stop

Dale,

Petrol garage + spilt fuel + rain = dirty pants.

Good to hear all is well.

yeah it was probably fuel on the road. Im only thinking this from my limited time driving my mr2.. Last week on the way to work i have to turn right at a junction at the top of a hill (there is a sainsbury's petrol station at the bottom). I pull off to go right up the road and im pulling off REALLY slowly, no booting it or anything, and im counter steering... thinking "why am i counter steering and im doing about 5 miles an hour?!" I later find out at work that a lorry had filled up with fuel at sainsbury's and the driver forgot to put the petrol cap back on.. drove all the way round the island at the bottom of the hill.. up the hill and i dont know how far before realising. Oh! it was damp aswell.. i now know the equation John Rees quoted.

Diesel on the road can be a 'mare too. I once got a major A road closed because of a LARGE diesel spill I reported to the police. I noticed the smell first (obviously) and the red puddles kind of gave me a hint...but it was when I braked and nothing happened it worried me :D

Very very greasy out there after a little rain, be careful guys.

I had one a few weeks ago on ice at night , managed to keep it on the road but the guy further in front must have thought there was a UFO behind him with my headlights :)

Never a truer word said. Here in Stratford Upon Avon, a couple of lads died a few months ago because diesel had spilt on a bend of a main road
into the town (60 speed limit). The fuzz were told about it hours before, but were too late in clearing it up, and consequentley 2 young lads died as a result :?

Yeah, at the end of the day it was the C**k end trucker who overfilled his tanks that did it though!

Are you referring to the incident in Stratford?
