attention from other drivers
is this the norm for someone who has an mr2 turbo, not used to so many people looking at my car.ok my old car got a lot off attention at santapod when people watched it fly but i am just not used to this.

Re: attention from other drivers
people like to look at nice cars

they try not to make it obvious that they are looking but you can always tell

Yup
- I get that a lot too.
Especially from youngsters too
- in a good way that is before you ask!
They often stare and wave if I'm following the car they're in, or rubber neck when they go past at junctions, roundabouts and the like.

At least they are the ones that generally say
"nice car mate" and not just look but try not look like they're looking, or just try and race you.
.
.
.

I must be doing something wrong though,
'cos very little interest from the ladies.
.
.
.
?
Perhaps they are just more suttle at hiding the fact they are looking.
Or they like the car
- then see the driver.

I've owned a couple of cars that are meant to be guaranteed

I suspect you're right about them seeing the driver.

Re: attention from other drivers
Yeah same for me.
I get a lot of young blokes/kids look but not many fit women.
I also seem to get people try and race me a lot.

I hate to break one of the biggest urban myths for you, but women don't go for men based on what car they drive.

And if they do, you'd wish you hadn't bothered anyways.

Oh I dunno

Now, if anyone has a Ferrari I can borrow for the evening?

Re: attention from other drivers
I had the best
'notice' from a pedestrian ever today.

Driving through a little village near me, so am only pootling along at
<30mph, when I pass this woman and her young son on the pavement.
The kid can't have been more than 5 years old, and as I drove past him with the top down and exhaust rumbling, he just turned and said:

"Wow!"

Something so simple, but it really made my day.
Little guy can't have any idea about cars, but he knows what he likes.

If I ever have kids, I want one just like that.
Top marks, little dude!

Re: attention from other drivers
Haven't had much attention in the MR2.

Most attention/comments I got was when I had a silver gen6 Celica, only had it 6 months and had more good comments about that than any other car.
Even it's replacement which was identical except black only got one or two comments in the 2 years I had that.

Just wish the wifes FTO would get more attention
- I've had more drivers fail to see it and try to crash into it in 4 months than in nearly my whole driving in the past 10 years

Re: attention from other drivers
LOL.
.
.MR2s attract attention, but an Evo
/ Scooby attract the most attention unfortunately.
I've come out from the cinema, shops, etc and have hords of people gather around it.
.
.mostly chav type people.

On the other hand, my M3, though more expensive, doesn't get much attention at all.
It just blends in with other cars perfectly

M5
Re: attention from other drivers
I drive past a school every morning, plus 3 kids bus stops.
Always get staired at as mine's a bit vocal but it's amazing the difference the 18s make when they're on, get people pointing.

Re: attention from other drivers
I don't really notice the attention now, not that I particularly like it anyway.
Had sporty looking cars for the last 3 years so I'm used to people looking.
Must admit the MR2 has probably had the most looks of them all though.

As I said it's mostly from children and teenagers but strangely enough I've also seen a number of OAP men inspecting it closely, lol.

Re: attention from other drivers
Most of the attention I get in the Mk1 is disapproval for some antics I may be performing at the time, looks of cringe-worthyness, and sometimes I see a little bit of pity
.
.
.
"oh look at that poor guy, he can only afford an 18 year old wreck with a blown exhaust, see how it slides around, the suspension looks broken too"

Re: attention from other drivers
I got a wave from a Mk3 driver on the A3 this morning!
I never thought it would happen in my lifetime.

Re: attention from other drivers
I get a lot of attention going through town, simply down to the noise.

Also every McDonalds I drive past the chav-mobile drivers always poke their heads up over the hedge
/ fence to see whats coming past.

Get a few looks fro the school kids in the morning if I take it to work, otherwise it gets ignored due to the age and the rusty arches.

Witht he exception of waiting outside a private car park about 12 months ago, waiting for my mate to get there and open the gate when some guy came up to me, he was drving some Honda thing and he started going on about how great the MK1 was, how he had one when he was younger etc etc.

I am going to live forever, or die trying!
Re: attention from other drivers
You can hear your car coming from over a mile away though Malcolm.
I imagine the noise gets attention from the recently deceased!

Re: attention from other drivers
Well it isn't subtle I will admit that.
Even louder in the cold air!

I've pondered flashing/waving to the Mk2's and Mk1's I see on my way to work every day.

But I figured they'd just think I was gay

Re: attention from other drivers
Only female attention I've had in 18+ months of ownership was from a few chavvy looking young girls lol.

Usually kids love it and wave, come talk to me when I'm cleaning it etc.

I had a bloke litterally run accross the car park at Asda once to come and talk to me about it lol.

There's also a car wash with a bunch of albanians or the like.
Every time I go in there
- is nice car yes, what engine is in?

Last time though he says
- is 4 cylinder yes?
Me
- yes.
Him
- 4 piston yes?
Me
- erm, yeah?
