Recently i have noticed that my car mumbles at me

It is a very strange noise, quite low frequency and happens only for a short time; about a second. I tried to recreate the sound on a drive today it seems to occur under low to medium boost in 3rd gear onwards.

If i hold the car at a certain boost it doesnt lengthen the grumble. The sound is almost like going onto the rumble strip near the central reservation but witout the vibration or clacking sound (its just the low rumble)

Could this be turbo blades rubbing against the housing The turbo was rebuilt by turbo technics by the previous owner i would have hoped it would have lasted longer.

I was also thinking that it might be the dump valve, maybe im slightly venting to atmos and recirc at the same time

Basicaly i dont have a clue and would like to find the problem rather than wait for something to fail.

Anyone have any thoughts

Yep, sounds like the standard D valve. Hear it on mine sometimes, unable to get it to do it on demand tho.. just seems to happen some times!

i could be wrong, but your description sounds exactly like my exhaust burbling away randomly in 2nd or 3rd gear with low/med revs...

Not sure what exhaust I have exacty as it was on when the car was imported, but its just a big fat single exit one. Dont know if you get the same noise on standard pipes?
