Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
Today, filled up after 30 miles of the low fuel warning light constantly glowing I managed 50.44 litres (just over 42 quid ), and that was brimming it to the fuel cap neck.
How much more would have gone in if empty? Anyone?
most i've ever run mine dry was £38 worth of fuel
it cut out on me at the lights as i was about 200 metres from the petrol station, thought it wouldnt make it
Just back from an Optimax hit - £60 @ 85.9 - 69.85 litres and the orange light had only just flickered, it'll drink more
That'll give me about 250 miles of road fun, or 100 at a track - sometimes getting another '2 seems like a sensible way to save money
guys, I hate to sound like your dad but running your fuel level to the light indicator is not a very good idea Sure you know this already and if it was a mistake/emergency then fair enough. As for anyone who doesn't know, running lower than about a quarter tank significantly increases the chances of clogging up your fuel system - injectors etc - with all the crap that builds up there over the years........ and this is not good

are n/a tanks smaller on rev1/2 cars?
I have never got more £39 worth of optimax in my converted car and i often run it to the warning light.
I was sure it was a 40 litre tank + 1 in the neck?
Had the car for almost 3 years so i've filled it up many times ??

When I see how much you guys pay for gas i dont mind that I only get 96 octane fuel
I've filled it from near empty today, 52 litres @ $1.199 = $62.35 or £23.48
Leeroy, how does running to the last quarter of a tank do damage? surely the fuel that goes to the engine comes from the bottom of it anyway???? I think it's an urban myth
Mr C, how did you manage to get so much fuel into the Supra's tank, it's only a 70 litre init??? Or is it one of the dodgy garages that short-change you as it were. Think it was mentioned on Watchdog or Which some time ago about garages that don't give you as much fuel as the pumps say they have

Have you seen inside a fuel tank? The pickup is in a sort of bowl set into the tank. One thing that amazed me when i removed my fuel pump was how clean it was. There wasn't a single bit of dirt clogging the mesh pick up stuff either, it surprised me tbh. The conclusion i came too was that petrol either contains a lot of detergents or simply cleans by definition.
I'm sorry running lower than a quarter of a tank will cause you no problem whatsoever. The tank i too apart was from a car where i had frequently run until the light came on and on the odd occasion when i had been caught out i had done up to 60miles with the light on.

That is barking fuel costs Michael. Sell it and get another 2 immediately!
And i used to think my SC was bad!
Well I thought It was 40 +1 or 2 and I was wrong, I dug out my handbook and details are 55L (14.5 gal., 12.1 Imp. gal)
I could guess that maybe my tank has a big dent in it

We've had this debate before IIRC.
the Mk1 tank is 41litres/9gal
