[Mk2 Turbo] What parts do I need to fit an aftermarket head

Ok, Ive tried searching and i cant find any definite answers on exactly what i need to fit a new aftermarket head unit. So I was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Its for a Rev 3 GTS import and as far as I can tell i Just need a fascia adapter and a wiring adapter. But which ones do I need? I've found a few around the net but non seem to be specific about what models they will fit.

If anyone has been in the same position and has links to the products i need id really appreciate it.

I didn't need an adaptor plate as such.

My JVC head unit screwed into the 2 stereo brackets already holding the double din stereo in place.

I fitted my new single DIN headunit at the top, and used the lower half of the bracket to hold a DIN tray. These are about £15/ £20 from Halfords or a car stereo shop. If you don't want a tray, you can get blanking panels, gauge holders or fancy metal plates with "MR2" cut out on ebay.

I can't really help with the wiring. My harness was already butchered beyond recognition when the previous owner fitted an aftermarket double din unit.

My JCV used a standard ISO connector, and I used an ISO connector with open wiring at the other end (came with the stereo).

I then spent 20 minutes with a miltimetre working out which wire in the butchered harness I needed to connect up with my head unit's wiring.

Eg, permanant live, accessory live, earth, aieral remote feed, then the +/- for 4 speakers. 12 wires in total. Some kits may have an illumination feed also.

And the car's aerial of course, but that one's dead easy.

if its a popular make of stereo you should be able to get a toyota to......(sony/alpine etc) adapter from your local ICE dealer

I think I would just prefer a din tray like yourself. Is this the right thing:

But im still not sure what i need to do with the wiring. Most of the wiring adaptors i've seen for toyota's are like the first one on here:

With one connecter with 8 holes and another with 14. Wheras on mine the leads coming from the car have 8 and 12. So it doesnt look like it would fit.

Any ideas?

hi red my stereo fitted same as ians,i just needed an adapter from halfords cant remember part no but il have a look ,i might still have it

hi red,the adapter i used from halfords is called a pc2-17-4 it does say on it not to use it with active speakers which i was told meant if you have the subs behind the seats dont use it,any other mr2 is fine,hope this helps.

Spt on, there are 2 types, one is for the active amp setup (if you have 1 or 2 subs behind the seats) and the other is for the passive setup.

the active has a single white plug and the passive has 2 plugs i will get you autoleads part numbers in a bit if that will help
