ok, time off work is now sorted and ferry is booked. me and stu are leaving dover at 4am on the 13th of june and will wait at calais for the rest to come over then convoy to lemans. we are coming back on the 20th of june at 8pm. has cost us £50.50 return trip which seems to be alot cheaper than the dover to calais prices.

now we need to book our accomadation.

Guys don't worry about not getting an immediate reply, remember its the French we are dealing with and they normally do everything in their own time and at there pace. Its taken as along a 2-3 weeks for me to get a reply from Domonique at the Chateau. Give it another 2 weeks, its still early days. The people at the Chateau are really good and normally on the button, I think email and the internet isn't that big in France and certainly in and around the Loire valley and I don't think thay check it every day or week like us brits do.
Trust me he'll get back to you with confirmation of your booking at the Chateau.

Cheers
Michael
We are looking into getting grandstand tickets for the race weekend. I think they will cost around 80 pounds for the 2 days, in my experience definately worth it, what do you think.

If I can get the fuel money together me and my mate will drive down. Could be done for next to nothing if we stay for a couple of nights and bring our own food and beers; food=home made sarnies and drink = bargain booze £10 a crate. Exellent!! 8)

Stu,

You pay for the camping when you check in, its roughly 10 pounds per night. You can keep updated with the tariffs on the Chateau du Chanteloup website.

Mate,

I wouldn't bother bringing your own food as its dirt cheep food and beer from the local Supermarkets. If its as hot as last year I wouldn't consider eating sarnies made up days earlier. Theres a supermarket going in towards Le Mans called Leclerc, cant miss it, and right next door is a McDonalds if you didn't want to actually make food. Once in the circuit theres plenty of catering.
If you fancy a little bit of culture get a taxi into Le Mans centre as theres loads of bars and restaurants.

Cheers

Le Mans 2006 17th - 18th June - Update

Post by AW11 Forever..! »

Hi,

Just a quick update on the trip. Looking at the list of interest there are a good mixture of IMOC and MK1 Club members making the pilgrimage to the famous circuit.
By now you should have booked you ferry tickets and have contacted Dominique at Le Chateau du Chanteloup to let him know the dates you will be camping. You must let him know that you are camping with 'Sheavills Toyota MR2 MK1 Club'', that will ensure that we are all together and not scattered around the site which is huge.....
Last year it rained really heavily during the qualifying on the Wednesday and Thursday and during the race weekend it was so hot with little shade. We stood on the start and finish straight for the start of the race as its a wonderful sight but really it was that hot ( 96 degrees ) it made life a little uncomfortable.
With this in mind I'm considering investing in covered grandstand seats just at the end of the start/finish but opposite the pits and right in front of one of the huge TV screens. I've had a look at the plan and grandstand number 15 which is called Chinetti looks to be the best one.
The price of the covered grandstand seats in number 15 - Chinetti are £133 each and does include your entry ticket to the circuit which is normally £45. Having been there for the past 5 years standing shoulder to shoulder to get a good view of the start and finish of the race I feel this would be a minor investment and money well spent.

Right listen guys we need to be a little bit smart here. This year the organisers ( ACO ) are predicting the biggest turn out ever @ Le Mans. I must admit I've been for the past 5 years now and it does seem to get busier and busiers each year.
What I propose and what I've actually done is booked Grandstand tickets in the Chinetti Grandstand ( Number 15 ) Its right in front of the start and finish line and right in front of the pit lane where you get just as spectacular action as on track. Literally right opposite the Chinetti stand there is a huge TV screen which broadcasts the race non shop so you don't miss any of the action. The main advantage to grandstand seats is that you have your own space over the 2 days and believe me when its hot in mid france in June, its bloody hot..!!!!!
Now this added luxury isn't cheap, its £133 per seat but does include your curcuit entry ticket for all practise, qualifying and the race itself ( compare that to the British GP @ Silverstone for value ) This is a 5 day pass that includes a pit walkabout on the Friday.
Ok so thats entry and grandstand sorted, the next thing to do is to book parking in Blue ( Bleu ). I'm told by my sources that the parking is already starting to fill up fast with unreserved bookings so I'm taking NO chances and have also booked my parking pass in the Blue carpark which is only 5 minutes walk from the main entrance and roughly 15 minutes walk from the Chinetti Grandstand.
The ticket company I have used is called Just Tickets & Motering Ltd.

www.justtickets.co.uk

Tel no: 0044 (0)1304 228866 / Fax No: 0044 (0)1304 242550
Email: [email protected]

I had no problems at all booking all my tickets and I've been told that they will arrive no later than 2 weeks before the weekend of the race itself. Confirmation of my order has been receiveed in the post.

Let me know what you think. I must say in the past 5 years although its been very busy I've had no problem at all buying a car parking pass. Last year I had already decided that this year seats in a covered grandstand was definately the way forward.

Cheers guys

Stu,

Which site...

If its Just Tickets simply click on the link which takes you to the site and click on Le Mans 2006 link. Here you have information on tickets for all the different spectator enclosures including grandstands, covered grandstands, pit walks, hospitality, parking.
If you click on the plan of the track it has numbered all the spectator areas, I have booked number 15 ( Chinetti )

Hope this helps

Michael
