Rev3 Conversion 6000rpm Rev Limit

Post by ChrisActon »

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone had ever come accoss the following....

I have a Rev3 conversion inlcuding Engine, Gearbox, Turbo, Wiring Loom and ECU. However I have noticed that now my car hits the Rev Limiter at 6000rpm where as before the conversion it was 7000rpm

My guess is something to do with the ECU cos I have already had issues with the power steering that were ECU pin-out related.

Any ideas??

Cheers, Chris

You definitely have the correct igniter for the engine - if you can post the part number I'll confirm. That said, the igniter would have been my first point of call for this particular fault... An early igniter has a slightly different plug so wouldn't fit without modification.

Does the rev limiter come in when you press th throttle in neutral or only under load? Have you checked the ECU for error codes at all?

Hi Patrick, cheers for your comments, I will check this evening and let you know the part num.

I have only noticed it under load, mainly in second gear. After the problems with my power steering me guess is it may be wiring related.

Thanks for your help, I am well happy with my new engine by the way mate, she's sooooo smooth now, like a new car!

As others have said, ignitor would be the first culprit I could think of.

My car came in from japan with this exact problem. It was a rev3 engine with a rev2 igniter (fitted fine).

On Dino (MR2 Mania)'s advice i found a late model igniter and the car has never missd a beat.

I'll eat one of my tyres if thats not the problem

I'll go for the igniter to.
the part no of the Rev3 igniter is 89621-16020 (99% sure) so have a look
if that's what you've got....

I think that I have found the right part.... I can see that the coil lead heads off below the fuel relay. I am guessing the coil is under there somewhere but I could not see it from the top. Below the fuel relay I spotted a small black box (fag packet sized) which I am guessing is the igniter, the part number is:

89279-1702, and below that a second number of 029799-022

Have I found the right part and does this number sound correct for a Rev3
There are no fault codes logged in the ECU by the way.

Cheers lads! Chris

Yep, sounds like the igniter, mate.

Patrick, are you sure it's a different plug? Also, I don't think it comes off the engine loom (there are 2 parts of the loom that go through the bulkhead, one directly from the engine). C

Chris, could it be that this bit wasn't replaced during the conversion?

The plug on the ignitor is slightly different, but nothing that a bit of trimming of the plastic cant sort out :)
