If you're staying in the 'official' IMOC accomodation, then I think we've got a tarmac driveway this time.. woohoo!!

See here:

In the first post Anna starts by explaining the accomodation details and then towards the end she details the after-party 8)

A motorbike helmet will be fine. Race helmets are much more expensive to buy.

You can hire one for a tenner, but if you do book it via bookatrack.com first as i expect there'll be a fair few hiring helmets out.

Thanks Lauren, I've seen a bike helmet I like.I was wondering if the two types are built to different structural specifications or whether they are much of a muchness ?

There are different specifications for run-of-the-mill motorbike helmets (Gold sticker on the back), vs slightly 'better' helmets all the way up to SNELL certified helmets like F1 drivers wear. Expect to be able to pick up a motorbike one for £60ish (or less), whereas the top of the range racing helmets will cost £000s, possibly even £0000s..

For a helmet for in-car trackday use (i.e. very unlikley to come into contact with the road), you can use a motorbike helmet no probs. Lauren and BenF use open faced ones, it's up to you. Like my avatar, I've got a full-face one.

Get a full face helmet, like Speedy said you can pick up a motorbike one for £60 or less. I would advise spending as much as you can afford IYSWIM. I've got a full face race helmet but that was £170. The more money you spend the better the fit and the lighter the helmet will be. Obviously weigh up how much you are going to use it with what to spend, but at the end of the day its your head so place your own value on it. ;)

That's changed since we last met... I have always known you to use that white open face Sparco with a tiny peak 8)

I think it's laurens definition of open-faced :) - tis a fair enough, and is a very nice helmet. Gives you room to write 'space-to-rent' across the peak :P

It hasn't changed. Its not open faced at all. It is most definately a full faced race helmet. It doesn't have a visor, it has a peak instead, but thats because its a saloon car race helmet IYSWIM.

Ben's helmet is totally different and is open faced.

There's some on ebay for £30. Full face with visor. Can choose 5 different colours too! As i'm strapped for cash at the mo I think i'm gonna get one of those.

Mk1 problems... :(
Going to have to bring the Mk2 along instead, didn't really want to track this one (recently had a brand new set of T1-Rs that I don't want to shred just yet!) so some conservative driving from me will be order of the day... :(
