Keilder Forrest Run 2006 - Don't Miss This One.......

Post by AW11 Forever..! »

After the success of the recent Lakes Tour I feel we must plan something similar, this will give the people who missed the run the opportunity to experience such a brilliant day and for those people who came on the run another chance to repeat all the action and thrills.

This time its Keilder Forrest famous for the World Rally stages during the 80's and the early 90's, and the all important day is Sunday 7th May 2006. This gives us all plenty of time to re-arrange our schedules to make sure we don't miss this one........

We have done this run before but on a much smaller scale and in some of the worst driving conditions imaginable for an MR2....
Have a look at 2 of the past reports which were run by the North East region of the MR2 MK1 Club.

Looks crazy doesn't it and it was.....!!!!!

I'm sure we won't see anything like this in May, so lets get cracking, please add your name to the list as soon as you can commit to the event. Once we start getting a few names we can see where everyone will be coming from and therefore will be able to make meeting arrangements. Can I suggest that people who may be travelling a few hours just to get up to the north possibly stay over on the Saturday night so they are fresh for the run on the Sunday. If anyone is interested let me know as I can suggest a few good, cheap hotels. If we get a good number of people wanting to come up on the Saturday and stay over then there is a good chance of a booze up somewhere, possibly Durham or Newcastle, again just let me know and I can make it happen..

Please add name and place where you will be coming from:

Just looked at the pictures and it looks great!! As someone who missed the Lakes run :( I would love to do this one. Bearing in mind, the notorious North East weather, can you promise us no snow!! Have to check my diary and get the name down!! Looks awesome!!

Im up for it, but not the off road sections, and definately not if there is snow. Got to think of the paintwork. In reference to the accomodation, there are some log cabins/lodges that can be hired around Kielder for the weekend.

A good friend of mine has an hotel in Bellingham (very close to Kielder).

Sure I could get some special rates out of him for people who wanted to stay over.

Accomodation would be good for this one. A lot of driving otherwise and motorway driving is soooooo boring after the event.

Stu Wilson: if you ask the run organiser if this hotel is close to where they plan the route, then yes it would be a good idea to see if we could get a club group booking special rate. could i leave this to you to look into?

thanks

any idea what the roads will be like that we will be running on as its along way to come and dont realy fancy running down any gravelly back roads as the mr2 just isnt suited and dont fancy stone chips neither.

Hicks,

After doing a few of the Keilder runs in the past there is the option to do the forrest runs, but you don't have to you can meet at the other end. Most drivers just make sure there is a lengthy gap between the car in front to avoid chips.

Cheers

Deffo up for this one. Overnight stay, night out in Durham or Toon, or single day round trip, don't mind the plans at all. Count me in.

KIELDER 2006

Looks like the route is down to me!! I've got a reputation to uphold after the lakes run.
I can assure everyone there will be no spoiler ripping, sill crunching sections at all, just quiet country back-roads and by-ways where we all daudle along and enjoy the scenery ( yeh right !).
Watch this thread for updates...
