Fantastic day and brilliant show with all the mr2's in a line. The look on peoples faces as we rolled through the quiet little towns. Havent had my mongoose on too long so couldn't resist the temptation to rattle some windows on the small town streets

Good to meet people! Steve and Kelly we met in blackpool before heading out. Hi to all the other people we met along the way. Brian, gotta say i love your car! I think its spot on, Just take it easy over them jumps next time

Favorite part has to be 'The Struggle'. Wicked road. Oh and driving at the bottom of the valley.... Oh and blasting down the twisty two lane road on the second run..... Oh and the jumps..... Hell it was all good \:D/

Looking forward to the next run!

Wow! what a great run.
fantastic turnout - as said by everyone... it was mad seeing the long convoy wiggling round the country lanes.
cool trying to negotiate passing cars, fell runners and crazy fearless sheep!
will try to upload my phone pics and videos tonight.

we got really caught up in the M6 carpark :( but caught up two of the white mk1's to follow :D

Got back to Northampton around 9:30 ish i think (bit brain dead by then)

can't wait till the next one  (will have to take the 'tango' next time)

Unfortunately, I would have loved to have gone, but have to work, to support my two cars and a shopping habit I have!! Well done those people who organised it, looks good. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

I severely missjudged the economy of the car - having never driven any decent distance since doing the 1.5 conversion; as a result I was down to a quarter of a tank already, just driving from Chester le Street to Penrith! No way would I make it round the first leg of the route (which Mac had given us the map and directions for, at the little chef)... so off I went on my tod to the services and filled her up; it seemed to take forever and indeed the folks had left before I had finished.

I guess I was about 8-10 minutes behind at this point, so I figured instead of trying to catch up I'd just enjoy the drive... the car was behaving itself - oil and temp perfect, boosting smoothly to 13-14psi and no issues other than a slight tendency for 3rd gear to pop back out when downshifting - I think it needs the shift cable adjusting again!.

Anyway I headed out on the first leg myself, with only a few odd cars in front of me once I got onto the single track roads around the back of the roads to Braithwaite and Buttermere... and then lo and behold... they all turned off one by one and I was left with a completely clear road in front of me! It seemed as if by some random fluke I had just been given a chance in a thousand to drive some clear roads - put it this way; I didn't have a single car in front of me for a good 10 miles! :icon_rr:

So... as soon as I could tell that there was going to be no-one around I stopped the car and flipped the camcorder on - oh yeah, I had bungie tied my old Hi8 to the centre console and put a funky fish eye lense on :cyclops:

So here we have my solo drive around most of the first leg of the Lakes tour:

1. Buttermere to Honiston Pass (4:30, 17mb)
http://www.fmcc.org.uk/personal_john/01 ... 20Pass.avi
Image
Nice quick road with lots of sweeping bends and only the odd car.. pity about the billions of hikers though

2. Driving up Honiston Pass (5:09, 20mb)

Image
This ^^^ road truly is amazing - I only wish I could have done it again and knowing that there weren't any cars coming! Could have given it even more welly!

3. Honiston Pass down to Keswick (19:11, 60mb)

Image
Lovely drive down back into the valley... tough on the brakes and gears (grr, 3rd!).. the ST185 brakes seemed to cope fine. Once back down in the valley there are some nice roads where you can use 3rd and 4th with a decent amount of power - Relaxing after the technical ascent and descent!

The car handled beautifully, turbo spooling well (though laggy, but hey, who cares!).. really needs an extra few psi and setting up properly with the unichip though... the biggest problem was the gearbox jumping out of 3rd on occasion, but not enough to spoil the fun!

To be honest I really wasn't pushing the car, but relying on the mid range torque (3-5krpm mainly), of which there is plenty... though on the few times I could plant the throttle (couple of times up Honiston Pass, which was ace!) and got both the TVIS and turbo engaged it really does shift like no-ones business! :laugh2:

more to come.....

I've also got the drive to Ambleside and up and over the other side of Kirkstone pass, but they're big files (50mb and 90mb for the half hour drive) and should be up tomorrow morning.

Many thanks to everyone who made the effort, told you it would be a fantastic day. The comments posted since Sunday have been very positive and I thank you all for taking the time to write your thoughts.

You all deserve a pat on the back as its you who made it such a great event. Much admiration must go to Mac Sheavills who planned the entire route from start to finish, not an easy task when you know there is going to be such a big field of cars.

I'm going to have a word with Mac and see if he can come up with something similar for the Keilder Forrest Run 2006. We have done this run a few times, even in deep snow and its not for the faint hearted....!!!
For this year I think we should give the snow and ice a miss and have it in warmer conditions.

Have a look a Keilder past events. If anyone would be interested in this run then please post, I'll start off a new thread. We will be looking to do this on Sunday 7th May. Have a feeling this one's going to be even better... and BIGGER.....!!!
LETS SEE IF WE CAN GET 30 MR2'S

Cheers and thanks again everyone, hope to see you all again very soon.

I had a really good time. Will deffo do it again if we can arrange the following day off as a 5 hour journey back was a bit much after a full day driving those fun roads.

Am also yet to upload my photos, but I especially like this one John took. John original engine made it's way into my car to make room for his MKII tubby lump. So they're kinda related in a weird way 8)
