Wipers

Post by Jon M »

Hi everyone,

I've got a UK Rev1, Mk2, and it doesn't have the standard 'hook' wiper arms, just 2 screws holding the blade assembly in place. A guy I work with has an imported rev2 and he has proper hook type arms. Could I get a set of these from Toyota, if so would they just bolt straight on so I could use standard wiper blades (like the Bosch ones I just got from Halfrauds), and what would I ask for - were they standard on UK cars from a certain date, or did they only come on imports? Cheers,

Jon

All i can say is i got some off Toyota and they didn't have much idea what they are on about.

I have been told that a mk1 should have a shorter blade on the passenger side! I think they are meant to be 20" on the drivers side and 18" on the passenger! but they hadn't a clue about what i was talking about!

Ended up with 20's!

I read that you can get a converter kit from Halford and its only a couple of quid, not sure of which kit it is though, someone on here must know. I need to get one soon aswell.

Hi Jon - I have the same issue, i have yet to find a replacement converter or the like and as a result you can either fork out £20ish on replacement screw in parts from Mr T or just buy the rubber and replace that.

It cost me £7.50ish for the two replacement rubber strips. So not that bad really - cheaper than halfords arms.

I'll be getting new blades soon so no doubt I will have the same issue.

I know halfords do a kit for the mk1 which the same style of wipers so I'll have a look and post back

Would be good if there was a solution as it is a bit of a nightmare having to find a Mr T that is actually open, and helpful, to get blades.

The ones I got recently the parts guy had to get Previa blades and I had to cut the rubber to length. Not the best/quickest change! :D

Well I popped to Halfords at lunch and came away with an adaptor that looks like it could do the job, it was £1.99, and the box contains hundreds* of funny shaped bits of plastic! I'll have a go fitting it tonight and let you know how I get on!

* hundreds = 4 or 5

Unfortunately the Halfords plastic bits weren't any good at all! Don't know what they were supposed to convert from, but they convert to the exact same fitment as is on the car already - the pin going in from the side of the wiper blade type jobby.

Guess I'll be on the lookout for some rev2/3 wiper arms then, unless anybody finds out about a proper adapter to do it!

My rev 2 has the same fitment - not even sure if it changed for rev 3s.

Only seen the usual fittings on imports.

*sigh* Poxy Toyota!

Hi,

I had same problem a couple of weeks back. Ran down to local Auto Factors and brought the adaptor from them.

Make is Champion, Part number AK1.

Change these and you can use the normal sliding blades.

Hope that helps guys.

This is good, I just fitted original toyota wipers and arms to my mk1 because the ones that came with it were a botched conversion. I think i'll stick with paying extra for toyota originals for now...

I had this problem with my 1991 Mk2 too ... bought the crappy adapter thing from Halfords which didn't work so ended up going to Toyota and buying replacement rubbers for around £8.00 and the guy fited them for me in about 2 mins ... He cut them to size and they just slid on
