what wheels do you think?

Post by MarcMR2 »

hey i've got some money together and plan to treat my 2 to some well deserved rims but can't decide. Obviously i don't want to go too expensive so staggered jap rims are a no go but heres what i like, they're all pretty common choices.

i've had a read and the best sizes seem to be 17x7 front with 215/40 tyres and 17x8 rears with 235/40 but i'll probably need to go 7 or 7.5s all round depending on the make of wheels

anyone with thoughts and opinions?

they'll be going on a carribean blue n/a rev3

I like the Lenso RS5 because of the slight dish to it, and it looks much better as a 5 stud pattern. Although all are good. Maybe Lenso KR5 would be another option along the same lines.

decided it has to be the Rs 5's. If anyone has them and could suggest a good setup and some prices they paid i would be so grateful. Going to make some phone calls for quotes now i think.

just trying to work out the best setup i can afford with the RS5's. Am i correct in thinking that 17x7 all round with 215/40/17 at the front and 225/40/17 at the rear will be fine with an offset of 35??

last time i bought a set of alloys it was for my punto and it was never this hard lol

you really want 235/40/17's on the rear for the best setup, with a 1" staggered width from front to rear ie 7" front and 8" rear with a 35mm offset allround.

cheers,

Michael.

i was aiming to stagger the wheels but all the wheels i like are proving to be too expensive or unavailable if i want 8j on the rears. Also noticed in many posts that 235 on a 7j is a bit dodgy and looks rubbish??

I'd just thought i'd throw in, the RS GT style wheels really do look odd in 17 or under. Anyone considering buying I'd recommend see a pair before you buy as i was surprised how different the 18s looked (which is what mine wears)

Mark, best cost saving option is 7.5jj all round - that way you can run 235 at the rear with ease and 215 at the front.

Not at all. You'll notice that the rear bulge ever so slightly more than the fronts, but not that you'll notice. 235's on mine and it's been fine for years!

I had a set of Concept 5's on my 200sx,they were really poorly made, centre caps were thin as bog-roll,they wouldn't sit flush over the locking wheel bolts etc...

Just to add the Arospeed RS-GT is 7x17 et42 (As is the Kei RSS which is exactly the same but has a stainless steel lip instead of polished) the Fox RS5 (on MR2lover's car) is 7.5x17 et35 and which seems to more popular as it better suits the 215(f) 235(r) tyre set-up.

235/40/17 is what i would run on the rear on a 7j rim, It does bulge slighty but this varies between tyre brands - Some look worse that others.

As i've mentioned on previous occasions i choose to run 245/35's on a 7.5j rim and get shot down in flames usually  I go for the Falken 451's cause they have rock solid side wall. Go for a Toyo or a Goodyear on the same set-up and they buldge a hell of a lot more than this:

Andy,

Thanks, i often wondered what 245's would look like on my 7.5jj Kei RSs's and if anything they still look too skinny! At least in know it's possible now, many thanks.
