REV 1 3SGE and 3SGTE BLOCK DIFERENCES

Post by Lewis Jay »

Is the rev1 3SGE block the same as the 3SGTE block.

Have a bear rev1 3SGE block sitting in the garden and was considering a engine build to make it a 3SGTE.

Cheers, Lewis.

Theres not a great deal of difference between the two blocks.... the main difference is the turbo oil feed coming off the oil galley.. about 3/4's along the oil galley towards the clutch end ... then theres the pistons being a lower compression type.... everything else is the same believe it or not.

The head though... is different .... if your using your na head on the turbo block... theres quite a few modifications to be done to get the turbo to fit / line up. Better off sourcing a rev 1/2 head for cheap with manifolds.

I thought the GTE block had oil sprays to cool the underside of the piston.

i was about to mention that stef, surely the n/a wouldn't have the oil squirters would it?

I think the late rev 3 n/a had them. How old is the n/a block. Head combustion chambers could also be different (less vol higher comp on n/a) but i'm not sure on that one

once i again i'm not sure on the n/a as i'm a turbo tuner mainly but you usually raise the compression of an engine with the pistons.

oh yes of course.

Just saying most of the time when upping the compression ratio you change pistons. but this is in the same engine where replacing the whole head compaired to just the pistons is a bit silly.

I agree with that Tim but as i said i wasnt sure if the head cc's (vol) were the same and it could change the compression. Does anyone know for sure if the chamber volumes are the same on here?

don't actually know, i will be able to tell you exactly i a few weeks as i'm doing mine.

And when i build and engine i always document everything, clearances, weights of everything, cc the block, head, ports, deck hight everything and keep it in a full leather backed build diary.

Always looks good when i sell the car to show its been done right. Few test run engines i think they might offer them for customers.
