Make sure you have decent tyres on it.

Putting wider tyres on is a bit of false security tbh as it will go quicker when it finally does let go you will be going faster when it happens.

Obviously being a mid-engined car the handling is i would say not for novices.

Your best bet is to get some tuition in the car. Do an airfield day or go on one of the 1st lotus courses to learn how to control your car.

Until you do these things don't provoke it!

And yes i've spun (lost count of how many times) but i have been doing trackdays for the best part of 5 years now. Like everything else there's a time and a place for spinning, the road isn't it.

Think what you are saying (and quite rightly) is that you shouldn't unbalance the car in the middle of the corner as you will cause weight transfer.

Probably one of the most single most important things i learnt in my forays into racing was to keep a balanced throttle and 'sit the car down' through the corner. Sometimes the situation may occur when you feel you are going too fast, but its far better to commit than panic halfway through a corner.

Only ever had a few ar$e twitching moments on islands in the wet but nothing serious...i was runnnig Yokos on the rear but they wernt lasting me very long...im on cheerfull Nankangs now and to be honest the car feels more stable and predictable. As its the rubber that touches the road i would experiment with some part worns until you find a brand that suiits your driving style.

Very nearly lost mine a couple of times mate, once just leaving a small roundabout doing 20 accelerated in 2nd gear and back end just flew out...... bit of the old op lock and it soon went back but will never drive quicker than about 10mph in wet i think.

Best tip buy some new tyres instead of thsoe dodgy jap import ones you got with the car may help ..... mine seem to grip ok ... well execpt it wet .....

See u soon

I had some part worn crap on them, P6000's or something, came out of the corner on the way to get new tyres and lost the backend for a bit...

Needless to say I then bought Goodyear Eagle F1's which apparently are the best rated Wet Tyres around... Nice £500 well spent lol.

I have had my MR2 for about 3 months now (Pics will follow shortly). It's a total dream to drive however I do sometimes feel that it will punish you for the smallest mistake when corrnering. This is my first mid engine rear RWD car and i expected there to be differances. Has anyone had any near or actual spins? and does anyone have any DO and DON'T for controling them.

Ta

They are hard cars to drive on the limit but a great buzy when you get it right, here a run down off the top of my head of friend and there mr2 spin/smashes:

gtschris - two accidental spins on the public highway both in wet, more luck than good judgment = no damage.
graham aka trickster - spent Christmas 2003 re-shelling his sw20 after hitting a lamppost after a spin (i had help him weeks earlier with a na>turbo swap)
Glen - spun on way home after i boosted his car and de-cated for him, light front end damage.
James – 3 weeks with car he curbed wheels and shat pants after spinning across a dual carriageway with no barrier.
James dad - wrote james car off in wet.
Graham Newcastle - off the road and hit sign post after 2 week owning car, large body work / paint bill.
Paul Wintaz - spun exiting rounder about, his rev3 now broke for spare by me.

This list could go on and on and on………… You get the idea :)

The secret it seems is to drive like a pansy in the wet.

I had a "moment" in mine only 1 week after buying it, the usual story, overtook a golf on a wet corner and got it very sideways, more luck than judgement that it panned out ok (slight scuff on alloys when it brushed the curb).

Anywayi might see you around the sheff area (hopefully pointing in the right direction! )

Im surprised RaceLogic isnt more popular here, the supra guys love it !

I don't understand why you'd want traction control. I've always used my right foot instead. Surely its just a matter of throttle control?
