MR2 MK1 Club – JAE

Friday 21 - Sunday 23 July 2006
The East of England Showground

Image

This year the MK1 Club will be having our largest annual show stand at JAE. This is an annual pilgrimage for many of you, but for those that have not been before – this is not an event to be missed! If you can only come to one or two of our club events per year, this is definitely one to put in your calendar. It is predominantly a 3 day camping event, but there are also a few hotels nearby (but book very early) or pop along for the day.

Our club stand will be adjacent to our fellow IMOC’ers, and possibly also ‘Two Brutal’ with their mad MK1.5 hybrids.

What’s On:

There are a few changes to what’s on during the weekend:
“Now there will be separate, smaller trade areas, dedicated auto-jumble, even more camping space, a fun fair, fireworks, film show, disco and a heck of a lot more!”

Show and Shine

As this is our annual ‘Show and Shine’ event there will be trophies awarded to members for different categories (subject to change), so don’t forget your bucket and sponge! The judging will commence around lunchtime on Sunday and presentations later in the afternoon. There will also be an opportunity for one or two cars to enter the main JAE show and shine event for the Toyota category.

MK1 Club Awards:
Best in Show
Best MK1a
Best MK1b T-Bar
Best MK1b coupe
Best Supercharger
Best Modified
Best Engine Bay
Best Ladies car

This year we will have a club windscreen display sheet (download available soon) which can be used to add your name and details of your car, including your car specifications and modifications. This will be required if you wish to be judged in the ‘show and shine’. You may also like to keep these forms for other club events too.

Club JAE Events:

Friday, upon arrival, you will be given a welcome pack - including a 'MK1 Quiz' competition, which will keep you amused and busy till saturday when the quiz prize will be awarded to the biggest MK1 nerd/guru who gets the most questions correct!
\:D/ Saturday night is ‘Party Night’. The evening will ‘Kick off’ with the MK1 Club versus IMOC footie match (grudge match!), and players will be recruited by each club during the day, so Ladies and Gents get your name down asap. Saturday night will see the usual club BBQ at the gazebo, with perhaps a few ‘pub-style’ games to get the evening off to a flying start.

Club Shop

The club shop items will be available for purchase from the club gazebo, and the shop stock is due to be updated over the coming months.

Volunteers

If any members would like to offer their help with the organisation and running of this event, then please contact me: [email protected] or ‘PM’ me on IMOC: mr2mk1chick

Twobrutal will be there too, with our own stand and barbecue  ... hopefully with all the current UK mk1.5 turbo conversions (6 at the last count) and any others finished by then. Plus Paul Woods mad V6 cabrio!

It would be good if we could get the Mk1club, IMOC and Twobrutal in adjoining plots, we could set up a proper 'evolution of the species'!

Yeah - hopefully all the organisers for each club will ask the organisers for this to happen - i know i will ask to be next to imoc, and tom prob will do the same.
besides - we need the adjoining plots for the interclub footie match again

Nah will be on the IMOC side.
After all we should have won last time and were definately the moral victors....

Just been in contact with the JAE organisers, and we can have our plots together: IMOC, MK1 Club, and TwoBrutal
The respective organisers of each club need to state this request on their booking forms when they get round to sending them out.

MK1's dont feel pulled on direction or the other, just put your car on our pitch and wave at the mk2 imocer's

just re-read my last post- just to be clear before peeps get the wrong idea:
'clubs together' as in each stand adjacent to each other, not a giant stand of all 3 clubs in one

INFO UPDATE:

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING TO JAE

Firstly, I would like to stress the importance of contacting me if you would like to attend the event. I need to know the numbers of cars attending to allocate spaces on the pitch, so even if you are not yet 100% committed to attend, put your name on the list. It won’t be a problem if you need to cancel at last minute.

The Club Stand

The plan so far sees us having a huge ‘MR2 Village’ with our two closely neighboring clubs, IMOC (International MR2 Owners Club, UK) and ROC (Roadster Owners Club). This way it gives us chance to display the whole range of MR2 ‘Marks’ in the same area of the show. But ‘purists’ don’t worry – our stand is still dedicated to MK1’s. The stand layouts will compliment each other, with each club gazebos fairly close to allow for good socializing later in the evening. Each of the clubs have a few surprises for all the clubs members for evening fun and entertainment – but you have to be there to find out more.

The club camping is also on the club pitch, at the rear of the car display area. The tents do not have to be dismantled during the day. Where possible, the cars should be left on the display area to save undue shuffling of cars around the club plot and prevent any accidental driving over other peoples’ tent pegs!

Arrival to the show can be from Friday afternoon (the earlier the better to lend us a hand). Gates to the club stand areas are closed from midnight; so late arrivals will be directed to the public camping areas. Gates re-open at 6am each day. A different security company has been hired, and it’s supposed to be stricter this year.

The cost this year is £20 per car (up to 4 people) no matter whether you are coming for 1, 2, or 3 days. This includes camping. Hopefully we will have better weather this year, as we aim to have our club BBQ on the Saturday night, where you can cremate your burgers alongside your fellow club members, and wash it down with a beer, or two, or three!

New for this year is a ‘Club Welcome Pack’ which you will receive when you check-in on the stand. In this you will find club member name badges. Although this may not be ‘your thing’, I thought it may help everyone to get to know one another, rather than thinking…. ‘who was that bloke with the red mk1?...’ If we’re all in the same boat we don’t need to feel the odd one out for wearing a badge.

Show and Shine & Other Events:

The annual club ‘show and shine’ trophies will be awarded for the following categories:

Best MK1a
Best MK1b coupe
Best MK1b T-Bar
Best Supercharger
Best Modified
Best Engine Bay
Best Ladies Car
Best in Show

It is vital if you want your car to be judged in the club show and shine that you fill in all the details on the windscreen display sheet (available in your club JAE welcome pack)

There is also the main JAE show and shine competitions on Saturday. This year there is a new category for ‘Classics’ - which is ideal for the MK1, but we will also be able to enter the ‘Toyota’ class as last year and the ‘Modified’ class where appropriate. I have limited entry passes for theses events, so let me know if you are interested as entrants will be decided on the day.

If you fancy something more extreme than the usual ‘show and shine’, then why not try the ‘Flame off’ competition? This involves seeing which car produces the best exhaust flame, and is usually judged on factors such as the size of flame and duration of the burn. Last year I was amazed to hear that a MK1 was a high contender, producing fab flames from a non-standard twin exit exhaust. I will have an entry form for this on the show day.

The JAE organizers are putting on a fireworks display on the Saturday evening, a Saturday night disco, and a funfair all weekend. There will also be drifting in a dedicated drift arena on site. There are the usual trade areas, and food stalls spread around the showground. It may be possible to order fresh meat products from a local supplier to be delivered at the show ground, which may be a good idea if you plan on lots of BBQ’s. I should have the details of this at the show.

Apologies if I have forgotten anything, but give me a shout if you want more info!
