[Mk2 Turbo] Aaaaargh!!!! Why wont my Mongoose fit?

Post by neilg1977 »

Hi all,

I just took my car to have the mongoose exhaust fitted which dcdezign sent me and the back box fouls a bar under the car when i try to fit it!?!?!

Any ideas? Is it a faulty mongoose or is ot something on my car?

The garage managed to fit the center section (to a xxxx downpipe fitted by Millway) but the back box has to be forced under the bar and between the bar / chassis.

thats a wierd one.

The downpipes have fit first time in the past, sometimes there is issues with the bar and fitting but no more than if you were using the standard cat.

Its hard to see from the pic but will the mongoose exhaust fit to the car or is there no chance because of the way the anti roll bar sits?

Also what exhaust did you remove? any issues there?

Somethings wrong there... and it isnt the exhaust. The exhaust looks like its sitting in exactly the right place. The ARB shouldnt be where it is, looking at the rust in your pics i'm guessing the stock exhaust was rubbing on the bar, but just cleared it.

You've not posted any pics of the ARB mounts, but perhaps the bushes are knackered, and thats why the bar is too low... or maybe its bent.

Can you post pictures of the ARB mount area?

The ARB doesent look right to me either, maybe one of the mounts has broken on the suspension strut and let it twist round?

Yeah the ARB is way too low, on mine its right up against the metal above, and the pipe goes underneath it.

i haven't looked at my car to check this but can the anti roll bar be put on upside down (i could be wrong but i don't think the bit between the the two mounts is straight)

I think your ARB has been put on upside down. I reckon that 'cranked' bit is supposed to be the other way up and over to the right. Probably didn't matter with the old system but with the larger bore you'll have no chance of clearing it.

Here's a pic of mine for comparison:-

Ditto the suggestion about the ARB being on upside down - that's what I thought as soon as I looked at it.

What work would have needed these taken off? I've had the engine partially out for intercooler installation by Millway and other work done but nothing to the chassis as yet!?! Very odd....

Thanks again all, it's much appreciated. I'm taking the car toi 3S tomorrow with explicit instructions.

Oh dear... you can even see that it bends the opposite way to the chassis. You'll have to remove the rear drop links on both sides, and then turn the ARB over.

You'll need to drop the crossmember to get to the bolts on the bushes.

It's easy enough to do as long as you don't have any trouble with the drop links.

Shame you don't know who did it.
