Dunno if anybody has had experience with this, but i'm looking up con rod bearings using the EPC, and i'm getting a part number of: 13041-88360. Only problem is, there is a sub code of -01 after the part number and in the description it says "Mark 1" and -02 is "Mark 02" etc.

Any ideas if i'll be ordering the right parts by doing this or what the mark 1 marlarky is all about?? I presume they higher the number the more oversized they are?

Cheers

According to the service manual, there are a couple of sizes, mark 1,2, 3 etc...

the numbers are stamped on each of the bearings and I believe that you should get the same size bearings when you replace them.

Cheers,

Paul.

Ah thanks for the advice Paul. Was asking my mate who rebuilt his Honda Beat engine and he said that Honda use a colour system, whereby if you have an engine with a green sticker/colour painted on it then you have to use the bearings of the same colour.

He stated that's probably the same thing with Toyota but they probably use a different convention system which you've just clarified.

thanks!

do you want me to send you the section of the service manual that explains what the sizes and clearances are??

Pete, a full set of stock sizes will be fine, yes toyota do indicate 3 different bearing sizes, but theyre like a couple of thou out from each other which is usually taken up by the oil... its was toyotas engine builders using very tight tolerances making the bottom ends on these quite a custom unit.

If you buy from toyota a full set, dont' expect much change from £200. There are alternatives out there that are around £120 ish.

Whats this about pheonix bits, you tell me now after I've just put my hand in my pocket for a set of tein coilovers !! lol !! I could be still interested though - let me see if I can find those pistons before we talk more !

One of the big bearings at the Crank/pulley end looks a bit worn on mine.....it's a kind of copper colour in a little patch,

Paul R, this indicates a little drop in oil supply, or the bearing has run momentarily hot... advise you to change it... you can buy one from toyota, but will cost you something like £17, when a full set of 4 is £50 ! When the bearings is starting to perish, its best changing otherwise will cuase you heartache down the line and lower the oil pressure etc.

Once again, no one understands my sense of humour! lol.

Pete, its is a possiblity that theres crud on the valve seat allowing valuable compression to drop. Though it does sound suspect like a cracked ringland... explains the oil being pulled through too.

If you wanna have a crack at it yourself and pull it apart, I've got a set of ST205 pistons / rev 3 pistons... lower compression and made of the strongest material before going to forgies.

You'll need a honer tool to deglaze the bores and a new set of rings, but you can get away with leaving everything in, pull the head, drop the sump, take the pistons out, swap over the con rods and fit these pistons in I'm talking about.

To you, just gimme the price of shipping, but you'll need to get rings or I can get some if its difficult to you ?

Upto you, or bite the bullit and get some forgies, engine out, block bored etc etc.

:)

I'm guessing from this that rev3 pistons will fit onto rev2 rods.........
I have a blown piston (rev2) luckily the cylinder bore survived unscathed!!!!!!

Exactly the problems my old car had, cracked ringland. I couldn't be bothered with it and sold it to Ryans (mr2lover) brother. He got it all rebuilt on the cheap (still with forgies) said it cost him just under £1000 in parts and did it in-situe himself as the bore was unmarked. Maybe send him a pm - petrolheadhall
