Hello all

I have had my MR2 for about 3 months now (Pics will follow shortly). It's a total dream to drive however I do sometimes feel that it will punish you for the smallest mistake when corrnering. This is my first mid engine rear RWD car and i expected there to be differances. Has anyone had any near or actual spins? and does anyone have any DO and DON'T for controling them.

mine was VERY tail happy b4 i got bigger, more grippy tyres, now my baby corners 10X as well! Had quite a few ar$e out incidents but to correct this i jus ease off the gas and countersteer as appropriate and this will stop the tail from goin out anymre. It takes a bit of practice! but is very fun!

I've experienced a few near spin outs. Havn't actually spun it, I've always been able to catch it.

Advice, erm.. Dont floor it out of a corner, Dont drive fast in the wet, Just because you catch the over steer doesn't meen your safe watch out for the snap back where the back end will swing the opposite way after you catch it the first time. Dont drive stupidly and don't buy cheap tyres. SO3's are one of the best for road use. Make sure your suspension isn't worn out.

Be sensible and give the 2 respect and she'll treat you well.

I'm only just getting her back to her former glory after I destroyed a split rim and damaged my Departure 2 exhaust.

I think I countered too quickly/aggresively, snap oversteer, spinny spinny spinny, crash.

before i bought my first 2 i was on the imoc site and one thing that everyone will tell you is that they are dangerous (if like me you've never experienced ar5se out action before) in the wet!- u end up braking and fcukin it all up!

My first 2 was an NA- not mega powerful but accelerate even slighltly too aggressive in the wet (round corners) and she will snap! best thing to do is find a large empty car park and have a little fun- you get a feel of how you must drive when raining, and as Skywalker says "drive like a pussy".

However in the dry its totally a different story!

Also don't lift off (come off the gas) midway through the bend. This will cause you to lose traction at the rear of the car as all the weight(? cant think of the right word) will be pushed to the front of the car.

That said, I've sometimes see a red rev1/2 (with bodykit, not sure if it's a turbo or G-ltd) that travels up the A61 out of Sheffield and he doesn't half give it some stick - even on roundabouts when it's wet It completely sticks to the road so I'd love to know what tyres he has (& how long they last ).

Also dont think the first thing to do when the back end does come out is lift off. For the same reason as above.

Part worns are cheap enough so stop making excuses - I sold 4 17's on eBay the other week, £6.50 for the full set and they would have been perfect for a day at Elvington.

Just keep an eye out for some standard 15's or cheap scabby 16's - £100 with tyres and then they are really cheap to re rubber with crappy tyres for the next one, job done

My MR2 is tail happy on roundabouts.... Although I've never driven a RWD or Sport's car, I correct it with careful counter-steering and taking the foot off (when appropriate)...

The swing-back though can be a kicker... So I just take it a bit more carefully now...

keep it straight and smooth.

If the back starts to go don't lift all the way off, and DONT use the brakes.

basically if you plant the throttle with the front wheels turned in the wet you're asking for trouble, just as if you trail brake in the wet!

If its wet, brake and accelerate in a straight line and let the car do the work mid corner.
