[Mk2 Generic] Size of door speakers

Post by DannyW »

What size are the door speakers on a Mk2?

Any recomendations for makes and models?

around £70 to spend.

Must be all round speakers though as all other speakers in the car have been removed to save weight.

Edit: They'll be powered by the headunit only, no external amp. So nothing that needs too much power to run.

I had Sony 6.5" speakers in my doors, powered straight from the head unit. Sounded sweet, fitted fine.

Hope that helps mate

My infinity 6510cs (6.5") required spacers to fit.

Fantastic speaker though

anything over 13cm (stock size) really needs spacers....
to my suprise i had 17cm speakers fitted, cant rememer the make, but the magnet was only 1-2mm from the door frame and was distorting the sound....got some wooden spacers and also needed to cut a little of the inside of the door card to fit them in......

depends on the make then, my speakers were really deep, and had a big magnet....
my door cards wouldnt physically fit on without modifying the door card trim (the side not showing obviously)..speaker was to big...

I've got Focal K2P's and I needed 16mm spacers. The magnet nearly touches the window arm thingy still

Focals are REALLY expensive.

I say go for the alpine type r 17cm ones. Just get youself some spacers. They are top rated for the cash and you should be able to get them for about £90. I know thats a bit above budget but they are well worth it. They are on my chrimbo list anyway.

I'm getting 4" type s ones for the rear too btw, most people say forget about them but i just hooked up the standard ones again and i get a better all round sound IMO so when i upgrade the front i will be upgrading the rear too.

Hi Danny. Yes the Focals are excellent, and really powerful with a good amp. They retailed at over 300 quid (component set) when I bought them. The Focal Utopia 5 inch subs I put in the sub boxes behind the seats aren't great though. However i've used them in too big an enclosure (they're meant to be used in a 3 litre enclosure, and mines nearly double that!)
Good luck with your choices!

I bought mine (plastic spacers), as I didn't have the tools to make them. 6 quid for 2 plastic rings #-o
