Insurance -Does everyone else always laugh at their renewal?

Post by Rory »

Just had my renewal quote from Elephant. They put my insurance up from £810 to £947!!! I aksed why and got the same old "all insurance has gone up this year". Even though ive just turned 25 and have no accidents or convictions and 2 years NCD they have put my insurance up by £137!

Ive just been shopping around and have now got a quote for £796 with mods declared fully comp! Well pleased. Im now paying £14 less that last year but im now fully comp instead of TPFT. If anyone is interested im now insured with Bell Direct.

Has anyone had any bad or good experiances with this company??

As always the moral of the story is to shop around...insurance companies will almost always load a premium in the second year onwards as they assume most people are too lazy to change. A lot of the time they're right too...

Thats why I was shocked with Adrian Flux, my first year was 1450 and then my second year dropped to 1100 on the same car, same mods etc :)
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

I paid just over 800 quid (i think it was 820?) comprehensive for my import Supra TT with Elephant last year...

... when the renewal came through I thought "Bum, it hasn't gone down", but then I realised that they'd added on courtesy car (we have 7 cars between us in the house!), breakdown cover (duh, dads a mechanic), extra legal cover, and protected no claims on top of the actual premium!

Suffice to say i called up and got it all taken off.... quote came back over a hundred quid cheaper! Now paying 712 or so!

Make sure they haven't sneakily added any options on, or, my personal favourite; conveniently neglected to increase your NCB by a year

I was with dorset last year @ £1300 fully comp with business use. Dorset are quoting exactly the same this year.

Elephant quoted me £500 fully comp, thats 22year old with 2yrs NCB.

My policy went down when I put my boyfriend on it (same age as me: 25) - even more unbelieveable.

The problem with that is that I now get to drive it a whole lot less and he tried to charge me the money he'd "saved me"!

I must be lucky i get my mk1 sc insured for £238 fully comp through the mk1 club but that has increased by over 50 quid to last year
Percentage wise, mine has probably gone up a load more than most of yours!!
