Revs dropping during traffic

Post by liberty »

Hi all - hope ya had good weekends and looking forward to Xmas.

Right had a problem for a little while that when I'm in traffic and keep moving then stopping, revs drop right down, to like 200rpm and almost stalls. I've been told to clean the throttle sensor or something - anyone tell me how to do it? Any diagrams?

Would having a BOV on my car have anything to do with it? It's a rev 2.

Cheers.

I have the same problem but never really worried about it as the car never stalls.

I was told by a garage to not worry...

...it has been like it for 6-8mths now with no issue and only happends periodically. It has never let me down or stalled (touch wood)

Should i be worring about it?

Yeah mine is a Blitz bov. I stalled once, reversing out of the drive due to rev dip. Speaking to someone, he said it can cause the engine stress - eek!

Wondering whether to go back to recirc or HKS SSQ.

Hey mate

too low revs aren't all that good for things. Can you adjust the sensitivity of the DV? Tighten it right up and see what happens.

This problem crops up every few months on here and noones found out what it is exactly :-k . Mine's been doing it for a year now. I think it's either an air leak or a fouled TPS

i had the exact same problem with my Apexi bov
you could actually see the piston in the valve opening as the revs dropped then it would close and the revs would rise
it would do this for ages if left idling up until the point where it stalled

I assumed that the valve opening would richen the mixture then the revs would rise ,then the valve would shut and the revs would drop causing a pressure difference across the valve causing it to open again ,and hence it kept happening only slightly worse on every pulse .Eventually letting the revs fall to the point where it would stall

I tightened up the adjuster on the top of the bov and since then not a problem
my valve (and others i have looked at) had a 10mm locknut to undo then when it is loose you can then adjust the screw it is on in or out adjusting the pressure on the spring. Then tighten the locknut up again

Ok i am going to put this in idiot terms because when it comes to car engines i am an idiot. I just hope you know what i am talking about here coz i don't know the proper terms.....

The airflow sensor is situated just after the air filter, because of its positioning the readings it takes are going to be false if you introduce a vent to atmos BOV. This is only a problem with Rev1 and Rev2's because the Rev3 doesn't have this (i think) or its in a different position.

It was explained to me something like that lol.
