with all the discussion going on about tyres at the moment are there any plans to bring back the old tyre database? or just some sort of ratings system?

Excellent suggestion.
Not just one simple rating though, could be split, for example'wear rate', 'dry grip', 'wet grip', 'cost' etc.

It is on my todo list. We are currently working on a ebay style feedback system for the for sale section. It is 99% done and should be ready to rock very soon. The mods are just testing it at the moment.
Once that is done I have a couple of ideas run the tyre review stuff
