I had this problem on another car, i had painted the needles as well and found that the paint made the needle stick to the pin that stopped it going past 0mph.

Is there a speedo cable you need to plug in, could be that??

If it's a rev3, then it's not a mechanical cable going into the back of the speedo but could well be an electrical cable that is loose round the back.

Pull it out, start her up and rev it whilst pushing in all the plugs nice and tight.

It's a Rev 2, so has the same connections as the Rev 3+ dials. As Kieron says, check that one of the plugs hasn't fallen out of the back of the dials.
The plugs make quite a secure fit into the back of the dials, so let's hope nothing else is damaged!
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

All the connections are fine, but the needles have been removed, then put back on.. i know it says not to, but it was too late.. whoops!

is the problem fixable or is it a case of buying a new unit?
