where do you guys get your insurance and how much do you pay? Seriously thinking about getting a good clean mk1 and doing the turbo conversion (to heck with the debt!)

In my case it will either go on my fathers traders policy, or insured as a limited mileage classic.

I think you may be able to insure it as a kit car, strangley enough.

Have a word with Mr Woods.

i think the kit car option restricts the mileage but this would be my only car so I need the usual 12k miles a year option

shouldn't do. kit cars are used as every day cars as well.

best way is probably to approach a specialist broker and seek their advice.

mine went on a garage trade policy,or you can re register the car as an "mr2 based kit car" and the cost of insurance is about £300 a year! this was featured on top gear last year on a mk2 355 conversion.

The lad who bought my mk1 turbo is 19 years old (beggars belief that a 19 year old is at the wheel of a 280bhp mk1 but he seems to cope with it)
he went thru adrian flux...told them everything about the car and got insured TPF+T for £800 a year! 19 years old,280bhp mk1,£800??? unbelievable but true.

huh you're pretty brave for a man (benefit of doubt given) over a hundred miles away

I suppose the fact that up here we can use 5th gear for driving does make our accidents of a more destructive nature
