whats hapened to the view all posts since last visit

Post by spudgun »

As the title says title states, whats happened to the "view all posts since last visit" option. I found that really useful, and now if the only alternative is to wade through each section individually, chances are I won't bother at all. That would be a real shame as sometimes you come across some right gems. Anyway, anyone?

It got changed to view unread posts.... i'm finding this a bit irritating as well.... I think the admin are working on a better solution to this at the moment!! 8)

No current solution is the one that will stay...It is the better one of the two. I will make it easier to mark all as read though.

I prefer the old way "View posts since last visit"

What possible advantage is there to view all unread posts? There are some posts that most of us just won't want to read so they will stay there indefinitely. I don't see the use but thats just me.

Must just be useful to mods or something.

Now you see ALL unread posts, not from when you last logged in but from when this new "system" was installed. When i logged on the other day i almost xxxx myself when i saw 284 unread posts. Had to click through each one even though i wasn't interested in half of them. Became a complete pain in the ar$e. I've kinda got it under control as i'm only at 50 now but i;m having to click through them all to get a sensible response from the button.

If it aint broke don't fix it, every forum i have ever been to in my internet life has a "View posts since last visit" noone has ever complained about it or had a problem. IMO the new way is b0ll0cks but who am i to complain, i can only comment.

Like I said earlier, I just won't bother looking anymore. I will check the mk1 club out daily and that will be it. Unfortunate, but it takes ages to go through each forum individually, and I don't fancy the idea of checking every post I haven't viewed. There was a good reason I didn't look at it in the first place.

OK. This was introduced at the members request. All you need to do is do the search and if none interest you to read....then mark all as read. Then next time you login you will not see those ones? What is wrong with that? This solution is used on many many sites.

If enough people want it I could look to having both..not sure how easy it would be though. Though you would all be delighed with this.

I have to say Esmond, i much prefered it as it was before. Maybe i was just used to it and i'll get used to this too, but it sure is confusing me a bit still at the mo.

How do I do this Esmond? I now have 294 post that need this treatment. Is there a way of doing it en-masse, cause if there is I can't see it.
Do you mean click on each one individually
I hope not.

You have to go back to the main index page and then look for the tiny "Mark all posts read" link near the bottom of the page, you can't do it from the search..

I prefer the old way too - this way just seems overcomplicated really.. Yes, it has some advantages (posts remain unread even if you log out) - but having to go back to the main page to mark them read is counter intuitive, and it's annoying that posts disappear from the read list straight away (it was nicer when they stayed there till the browser session ended, IMHO, made it easier to go back to one that was interesting if you had suddenly thought of a reply)

Still, can't please all the people all of the time :)

What members? haven't seen anyone complimenting it yet, some are complaining and most seem to be living with it.

I would much rather have the old way of doing it (same as every other forum) but i can live with it this way its just a preference to me.

There were posts about this some time ago (i.e. months, at least) - I remember a few people asking for it to work a different way to how it did back then. Personally I didn't say anything - as I was quite happy with the way things were at the time.

The new system works well but initially you have the problem that any posts you haven't read since October are being shown which makes it seem daunting.

Read what you fancy now and then click this link:

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/index.php?mark=forums

The next time you login you'll have more accurate results and you'll do a little wee in your pants because it will be so exciting.

No weeing going on here - it's like the old system but less convenient - like the need to go back to the main page and hit 'mark all posts read' every time you've finished reading threads.

But then the old system worked just fine for me - so I wasn't one of the ones with problems with it.

No promises...that code is tricky to work with and is designed to have one solution...but if I can work in providiing the old search (plus the new one) with the new tracking system I will.
