New turbo fitment running up the £££££ !

Post by Mikejc »

This new turbo is proving to be a real git for the good chaps over at Westfeild motors to fit. According to Fensport who sold me the turbo etc, when asked how big a job it was to fit...."it's no big deal really, you just need to have a downpipe fabricated and also the 4" inlet and thats just about it" I asked them to send every thing else that would be needed to complete the install, ie the mounting plate, braided oil and water lines and anything else that they could think of.

Well I dropped the car off last week, (Sat the 22nd) so that work could start. I called Ian (the boss) to see how things were going on the Wed. He told me that he was no longer talking to me! lol He's had nothing but problems every step of the way and also tells me that I may as well just have bought the turbo itself from Fernsport as nothing else that they sent was of any use! Given that this turbo has cost around £1500 all in, i'm not happy. What makes me even more unhappy is the fact that the fitting bill is no doubt going to be through the roof, for obvious reasons :(

Fingers crossed that when all is finished, the performance will at least put the smile back on my face!? In any case i'll let you all know

To be honest it would have taken this long regardless of where I had the work carried out. Simply due to the amount of fabrication involved !

I'm sure you'll be right Mr Welsh, I can't wait to finally get it back. It's booked in at Thor for a remap on the 12th of Feb so all will be known from there I hope. The first test will be on the 19th of Feb at the night drags being held at Santa Pod. All being well I should be able to break into the 12's without too much trouble. And beat the challenging Mark Edwards in the process

Ahaaaa....
So it's you!!!
When I was talking to Thor a week ago to book my car in to fit/map the PowerFC, they've told me that they were going to have another 2 in the afternoon.
Anyway I hope you get it sorted quickly and that you get what you hope after you've spent all that money on it.
It would be interesting to see the results of both cars measured @ the same time:
Hybrid&GreddyIC vs GT28&paceCC
I think I might get thrashed
Anyway, see you at Thor mate :D

Are you booked in on the 12th of Feb also? As far as I was aware, they had booked me in for the morning slot!?

Thats a bit of a bu88er Mike. Do they have any idea when they'll have it done? I don't want you defaulting on me now! :D

Breaking into the 12's? Is that all you're aiming for!? I reckon i should be good for low 12's after the ecu is done.

You are so going down!

Hope you get it sorted quick enough though.[/b]

Well I would like to say that i'll be breaking straight through the 12's and into the 11's, but that would be more than a little hopefull :D In all honesty I suspect both you and myself will be seeing low 12's of some kind. I doubt their will be all that much between us. It all really depends on how gets the best start etc.

Which of course will be my good self

Yes,
I'm also booked for the 12th. I'm having the PowerFc fitted in the morning, and the mapping done in the afternoon slot. :D

No, i can't see there being too much between us really either, but with any luck i'll have the edge. As long as we don't end up with exactly the same times!!! Of course then i'll still have the glory as it's only a rev1! 8)

I was standing underneath your car today (you have an oil cooler right?) - I saw the turbo sitting there too with a massive blue Samco elbow, just wished I'd had a rainmac on, could've slipped it under the coat ;)

Mike, what exactly was giving them problems? Did the adapter plate not fit? I do remember them saying that ideally you need to take out the existing Garrett studs on the exhaust housing, and fit the bigger ones as seen on Toyotas (for reliability purposes, as the Toyota studs are better quality and tougher), but this alone shouldn't have caused a problem?

Cheers, aside from the fact the paint has gone very flat from months of no use and the rear end's about 9 feet in the air as there's no engine in it! :)
I need to have it mopped up at a bodyshop when it's finished to get the paintwork back to its former glory.
