just a quick one lauren about the helmets, i have a motor bike helmet that conforms to UK standards but currently with a loose visor (due to stupidiness that is combination of icy roads, a corner and pretty nippy two stroke scooter), but if i was to remove the visor can you still use the helmet on the track???

No probs with no visor providing you are in a car with a screen. For example my race helmet is a saloon car one with no visor (i can't even fit one to it).

So unless you are going to drive with no windscreen you will be fine. ;)

This sounds a daft question, but my car has over 300bhp, will this be too much for this track, I mean, is it a bit tight and twisty and will just end up frustrating me by not letting me stretch its legs?

What sort of speeds do you guys get up to on the faster parts of the course?

Hope that didn't sound arrogant or something by the way, its not meant to be!

Thanks

Simon

Well it is a fairly short track adn you are unlikely to be hitting 130mph down the straight, but that said it does have one of the fastest corners in the country. Personally i don't think 300bhp would be too much for it by a long way, remember the tubby is a heavy car... i've been round in caterhams, erises etc which are a fair bit quicker than a 300bhp tubby and it was a hoot.

Its one of those tracks where lapping quickly really depends on the driver IYSWIM. So i don't think it really matters how much or little power you have really.

Speedwise was hitting nearly a 100mph in my SC and around 95mph in my NA. Think you may see 105-110mph down the main straight but i doubt you'd get over that. Tbh thats plenty fast enough coming up to School corner which if you are good you will enter at around 75mph.

No worries. We ran a day there in March 2004... think that everyone enjoyed the circuit and there were a lot of tubby owners. Its by no means mickey mouse though as its not that slow. Most corners are 3rd gear excepting 2nd for the hairpin and 4th gear for School.

Don't worry its quick enough.

Yep - there are loads of opinions as to which 'line' through the corner is the right one - basically it will vary between cars.

If you have a look through the footage that will give you an idea of the circuit layout - what it doesn't make clear are the height changes through corners, and where the corners are slightly off camber - eg Abbots..

Needs a bit of welding, both rear calipers are siezed(!), rear arches need doing (surprise surprise!) as well as various other bits and bobs - I think the quote was around £500. It would be good to keep as a track car but I don't have a tow car to trailer it around (not using the teg!) and I don't want to pay the cost of insuring/taxing it for a year.

Have you still got two MK1's? Cant remember if you said you had sold the original one?

Hmmm, not too bad. I know a good (and cheap) body work chap in Liphook if you're interested and I could have a go at the calipers in the new year if you like.

Down to one Mk1 now, the coupe was so rotten I gave it to Eddie  .

Sorry Lauren totally OT.
