Embarsessd by a crx

spotted a honda crx (G reg) behind me the other day approching me very quickly, so i decided to wait untill he got up right behind me and then floor it to see how much i could embaress him, i knew the car and its a 1.6 import. But after i put the power on he was right behind me, then overtook me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then i gave up because a corner was coming up and it was slightly damp, just wanted to see how fast it was, wasnt expecting this
said something like racing on the back (some sort of racing version?) still its a 1.6!!!! how can it be so fast! lol. Was speaking to some body who knew the car well and he says its completly standard apart from the exaust system.

p.s. I hava 1992 N/A GE

A 1.6 CRX VTEC motor has 156bhp and will be a fair bit lighter so will always be quicker.

chances are it was a vtec-my mates got one and they are something like 158 or 168 bhp or something when the vtec kicks in, bearing in mind the car weighs near enough an exact tonne i believe, they are very quick cars for a 1.6, they were the inspiration for the type r series(Civic Racing Xtreme or something i think it stands for)

How the hell did they manage to get 160 hp out a 1.6 ?!?! lol. Is it much faster or should it have been close, because he overtook me with ease .What about the top end on these cars? what are they like at 100+ mph?

They are quick light little cars!!

There was a turbo one at Santa Pod last year it beat a modded Rev 3 turbo lol

Can't vouch for their accuracy, but 160bhp and only slightly over a tonne = one rapid NA.

My mate used to have the non-Vtec version (also a G-reg I believe)...I would have said even that was well on a par with a Mk2 N/a.

those crazy japs there a strong engine aswel, I know of one in holland with over 300bhp from the 1.6 and kicks the ass out of subaru's and cars alike.

Nah, great little cars. I've got a runaround one at the minute.
Its only the 1.6 non-vtec but still shifts surprisingly well.

If you check out Neil Johnsons pics from the noble rolling road day : HERE my mate brought his crx vtec along for the day and managed just over 200bhp with nos.
He's now running around 280bhp turbocharged with high 13s quarter mile.
Has problems with traction though so more potential if he could sort that out!!

them b16 vtec engines are quick... and easy tunable aswell, seen enough of them breaking the 200bhp line with stock internals...

Drop and engine like that in a nonvtec shell and you've got yourself a nice light little racer... without any torgue tho...

I've got the vid that peteh is on about on my pc here, it's a dutch 5g civic hatch with 491bhp... still being 1600cc's ...

One of my mates had a vtec and it was a fair match with my rev1 n/a in a straight line and easily matched him on the corners.

I had a mildly tuned CRX siR (Japanese VT version) and it was quick. I happily burned Mk1 Mr2's and Mk2 Na's with it and even some faster cars (Pulsar GTiR).

It was a very rapid little car. Ignore the performance figures, these things will hit 60 in high 6's early 7's.

was it a grey/black one? There's one that i see regularly at uni (heriot watt)...

always wanted a play but I think i'll leave it!!

I was looking at getting one of these when i was looking at my mk1 but i decided on the mk1. Would love a VTEC CRX...please dont flame me! i just think they look awesome! (not the del sol though...that just looks ok-ish)

Nah its a guy frm near me who owns it, theres 2 going around now.... If its not one of these racing edition Vtech's you shulkd b bale 2 beat it in a str8 line, just watch out 4 the 1s with the Vtech badge on the bk
