URGENT S/C oil Question

Post by LeeHoochie »

I've just checked the oil level in the S/C (the supercharger itself) and its empty! I need to put some in there asap, no where local seems to stock it, I've found 80/90 gear oil, standard SC oil is 75/90, could I get away with using that or is it completely different? I know the viscosity is similar but I'm unsure of any other properties it may need...?
Please help!

should use SC oil really.

Goto a jag dealer and get their relabelled eaton SC fluid for nearly half the price of toyoda.

Is GM supercharger oil any good for the MR2? Part number 12345982. Last time I looked it was far cheaper than Jaguar oil.

Cheers lauren,

found some 75/90 semi syn all ok :D

I think the gaskets around the S/C are leaking, if i wanted to renew seals, Gaskets etc... are there any kits you can buy and how difficult is it to do the job?

thanks again.

I've seen the gaskit kits come up occasionally on the US ebay. Alternatively give Fensport a ring - they may be able to source them.

Don't know what the spec of the original SC oil was, but bear in mind that at the time the SC was manufactured fully synthetic gear oils hadn't really hit the general market. After reading several write ups I've been using fully synthetic Mobil1 SHC in mine for the last few years without a problem. It seems to drop about halfway down the dipstick after 12 months ( guess some leaks out slowly via the shaft seals ) but what is left is clean and shows no sign of breakdown ( i.e. not cloudy or discoloured ).

i dont know why people run thick viscosity gear oil in the s/c, i used to run Mobil1 5w50 full synthetic engine oil in mine and even then wondered if the 50 weight was a little thick or not.
the genuine stuff is nice and thin and actualy smells like Lanolin to me.
