Fuel Consumption?

Post by Kiran »

Hi guys...I was just curious to know what kind of fuel consumption you get from a rev 3 turbo?
1. How much does a full tank cost? How many miles does it give?
2. How many mpgs do you get in town, on motorway, combined?
3. Do mods make a serious difference in mpg?

There's a topic on #1 a bit further down the listing: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23445

As for #2 and #3: I don't know what I get separately, but I average about 1 liter per 9.5 kilometers (about 22 mpg). I don't have many mods, but the ones I do have didn't make a lot of difference (MBC @ 14.5 psi, KO downpipe, fuelcut defense, ceramic instead of steel CT26 (US car)).
Obviously the higher the boost, the more fuel needed, but I reckon if you drive it carefully (I do) and don't boost all over town (I don't), it won't make that big a difference.

Mine does 31mpg on average, mostly on motorway. Got an induction kit, decat and Blitz Access ECU.

Mine was definitely better on fuel after I had it Unichipped (despite a 50bhp increase).

I still get around 22mpg average although with a lot of town driving this is a bit borderline. 30-ish is quite feasible on the motorway, especially if you drive at vaguely legal speeds 8-[ .

I though the turbo would be worse than that to be honest, my N/A is pretty bad although I rev it quite a lot. Been getting through about £50 a week easily (around 300 miles).

Just to wind everyone up then.

On a run have managed 37mpg.

Usually get around 270 - 290miles out of a tankful though.

1. Depends how much you can get into the tank. I never ran mine dry - about 40 litres usually.

2. MPG - Well, if you're worried about MPG, a high performance car isn't your thing ;) Seriously though, compaired to other high BHP cars, the 3S-GTE in the Turbos is very frugal.

Trackday: 5mpg
Town : ~ 22-24
Winter commute to work : ~24 mpg (mix of town and dual carridgeway)
Summer commute to work : ~27mpg
Long motorway trip : ~30-32mpg

3. Mods such as lowering the compression ratio will reduce the efficency of the engine (say ~2mpg less than the above) - but bizarrely tuning the car using (eg) a Unichip will improve the efficency as the engine runs less rich under load.

I knew a guy with a Marcos Mantara who used to get the same, but that was because it broke down so often it spent half of the time being towed.

Seriously though, what have you done to manage that?
