Pioneer AVIC-X1 will it work without the hideaway??

Hi there, as the title says, just need to know if the pioneer avic-x1 will work if the hideaway is not connected.

Not sure if the pioneers are the same but my kenwood unit will not even turn on without it, its the 'brain' of the head unit
