Anyone gone/going for a soft-top chop ?

Post by Spidey »

Is anyone in the process of going for the Soft-top conversion which Evans MotorSports in liverpool are offering ( think they are doing it in conjunction with BAD design) ?

They said £1,995 to supply the frame/top and to cut/fit it.

Just wondering as I am considering getting it done.

But I have to call the guy back and ask about what they are doing about strengthening the chassis etc

Some funny examples in there...the one thats owned by a chap from orlando is very tasty indeed. Will your look like this at the end?

yes mine will be ready for JAE.......2006! so much to do mate.

Yep toyota tendered out 15 cars to a conversion firm and 15 lucky buyers got convertibles as part of a deal that they gave feedback on how they drove/handled,faultfinding/roadtesting...that sort of thing...so toyota must have been toying with the idea of mass production runs but just tested the market with these 15...for some reason they didnt go ahead, which is a shame i think. These factory cars are now worth a fortune,i think only 3 survive.

Personally, I'd worry about the structural problems you'd hav by chopping the top of the car off. The T-Bar has more strengthening in it than the Coupe Mk2, but chopping the roof off would make the Mk2 quite wobbly - I wouldn't want to be in any kind of accident with a car like that :?

ISTR that the Mk2 Spyder conversion that was done at the factory was only done on NA cars, probably due to that reason ..

£2k also seems very cheap - is that all in painted and finished, or just fitted but not painted?

I have the website in work - will post it Monday.

As far as I know, the BAD designs work with Evans Motorsports in Liverpool.

The £2k is actually now £2,250 ! Must check but i don't think it includes any paintwork.

There is extra strengthening - some of it is in the floor of the car. I am trying to get him to get some pics of the strengthening bars in place. Will post more as soon as I get some.

Eh, sorry for late reply but here's the site

http://hometown.aol.co.uk/curld7/MR2Spyder.html

As he does Ferrari bodykits and Ferrari don't approve, they're very hard to get hold of.

But they do wotk in conjunction with Evans MotorSports in liverpool.
