engine price

Post by nuttasie »

hi
somebody i know sells just engine for£650(rev 1)or roughly £950 complete with auxilaries.
And charges about£300-£400 to take out and put back in.
and as far as i know that is pretty cheap.

with the help of my nephew(due to kn@ckered back) we got the engine out in about 4-5 hours, and this was a car which was cut in half so was a bit awkward to work on,under etc.
but that is not the time consuming part.as while engine out you might has well put new cam belt on(check idler pulleys for play, water pump if done loads of miles and change clutch as is easy to do while out.
and other parts which might be hard to gain access to when engine fitted.

I am doing this with mine and bcuz of waiting for parts my engine as been sitting in garage for over a week without being worked on.

hope this helps

2 scenarios - you pay more for a complete engine to save time on labor or more on labor and less on the engine.

TBH taking an engine out isn't a hugely complictes job, I have mates that do things like this and they aren't even mechanics. Aslong as you know your basics and have a manual to work from and a lift it can be done.

I had an engine swap on a little 1.4 Clio a couple of years back for £200 labour lol. Took em less than a day.

Obviously a 2.0 turbo will take a bit longer with all the plumbing and restricted space.
