ipod adapter

Post by gasman »

Just fitted my new alpine cda9847 with the kca420i ipod adapter, what a fantastic bit of kit, charges and connects direct line out to your ipod, you can even search via the head unit (though this is a bit slow, better off using playlists or choosing via the ipod before you connect).
I put the adapter on the transmission tunnel in the passenger footwell, behind the carpet (it's not very big) to hide it, and the ipod is currently in my glovebox, though I may make a hole into my cd pocket beneath the stereo to have easy access.
Has anyone else got one of these? How have you mounted the ipod etc? Sim.

Watch out, it also kills the ipod (Ive sent mine back 3 times now!). Because its constantly charging it eventually the battery gets fried (I assume). Was impressed with this bit of kit when I first got mine, now Im not (because iPod almost out of wauranty lol)

Oh and mounted the Ipod in the centre console between the seats. Interface is behind the drivers seat in the cubby (well have 6x9 there but its under that)

It had to go there really as this is the rest of the car lol...

My ipod's been back twice with system failures, the software is a bit rubbish really especially with windows. I was a bit worried about the battery issue, but they can be replaced for not obscene money, and Id rather that than cables all over the dash, rubbish sound from an fm adapter and no way to change tunes easily without nearly crashing. Sim.

The sound quality is no different when using the i-trip. But know what you are saying, it is much better controlling it through the H/U until it packs up

Your reception must be must better than mine was, cos I found the itrip extremely hissy with all the frequencies I used it with, and it clipped bass, the sound quality from a line out source is tonnes better. When you're driving fast in the car it's less of an issue (the mr2 not being the quietest car at speed) , but still with mp3 files you want the best transfer you can as they have already lost so much detail. I personally would only use an itrip as a last resort, cassette adapters are much better, but who has a cassette player these days? Sim.

Sony Stereo with AUX input.

Creative labs MP3 player mounted on an aluminium strip coming out of the pocket under the stereo, and output from the MP3 player sent through a headphone amp (boosteroo) and into the AUX on the stereo.

The headphone amp was needed to increase the level of output from the MP3 player (no Line-out).
I don't charge the MP3 player on the road, as the battery life is 14 hours anyway.

I just wish I'd saved up for an iRiver with an inline remote to put by the steering wheel.

I use a cassette adaptor with my ipod on my Impreza - still has the original double-din unit with CD and cassette player.

I've just bought an Alpine H/U and iPod adapter for my '2 though and it sounds great. As it already had a single din unit and blanking plate it was a quick install (bought the unit from Halfrauds +free fitting) and they put the adapter in the space below the H/U and set back so its out of the way.

I have the cable for the iPod coming out from the space below the H/U - I would like to make a drawer for the iPod so it slides into the space below so it's hidden from view. Anyone made one of these?

I've just bought the Alpine CDA9847R and iPod adapter too!! Just need to pop to Halfords to get myself an ISO connector. Looks like a really nice piece of kit. I was planning on keeping the iPod in the compartment between the seats.

Interesting about killing the battery, although I've heard it's not so good for them leaving them in the cold also, so it's probably worth taking the iPod inside rather than leave it outside in the cold car.

Yeah had one since they first came out

Hadm 2 ipods on it and never had a problem with leaving it outside or battery being fried.

I mounted the receiver behind the headunit and the ipod is in the small pocket on the drivers side beneath the fog switches, there is a small drop down cubby hole. Small hole behind to run the cable and sits in there nice and snug, easy to get to
