Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
I stopped at a set of traffic lights yesterday and thought I stalled my car.
However, after looking in my rear view mirror, it seemed that someone had gone into the back of my car.
When I went to have a look, the dumb ar$e was very apologetic but when looking at the bumper their seemed to be no damage at all except for a little scratch which was the outline of her registration plate.
I managed to polish the mark out, however should I still tell my insurance company?
It's up to you. If both parties are in agreement to let it go then no. If however you want to have the damaged section resprayed then you will have to report it to your insurance company unless she wants to pay for the repair out of her own pocket.
Ed
depends really- i wouldnt think so really if your bumper was only scrached- jus check if it lines up against the wheel arches- if it does then the bumper brackets have not been damaged so you'll be okay!
If youre both in agreement and theres no arguments then theres no point telling your insurance company..its not worth all the paperwork and time!
I doubt theres internal damage if it was just a scratch
Yes.
I checked that it lines up with the wheel arches and all seems to be ok.. However, their seems to be a mm gap between the left side of the rear centre panel and the bumper.

If in doubt as a rule get it checked out by a local bodyshop, however any accident with enough force to move the actual metal work that the bumper is attached to would have done more than scratch the bumper. You would have a cracked bumper as well. But get it checked out if in any doubt.
Ed
do you have her details? if not then theres not much you can do anyway- telling your insurance company isnt a good idea really- im sure they'll hold it against you upon renewal even though its not your fault!
Like Ed said- if you want peace of mind then a bodyshop is the best bet!
Bad luck fella but hey you polished it out anyway!
Oh dear.
Quit moaning and get on with it. It's a polished out mark, not even a scratch by the sound of it. Give it a rest. MM gap??? Surely you are kidding right?
Some people need to just get on with life and stop worrying about the most petty of things.
Not whinging at all - think it's just pretty pathetic moaning about a mark in your car which rubs straight off.
It's like sueing the government for leaving dirty great puddles unattended on country roads and then getting mud splattered up the side of your car.
He most probably got out of his car, broke down in tears on his knees yelling "WHY?! WHY?! OHHH WHY!?"

I actually got out and shouted, "you f**king dumb ar$e" and yes I have called the council about these damn mud puddles also.

Yeah I took her details. She was initially very apologetic but her face turned sour after I asked for them.
Cheers for the advice people and your constructive comments liberty.
Liberty - strange as it may seem, most people who frequent message boards like this tend to be enthusiasts who have a keen interest in keeping their cars looking as good as possible.
When someone's car is damaged - even in what may seem a minor way to other people - they tend to get upset.
If I didn't give a toss about my car, I'd be driving an E-reg Fiesta on 3rd party insurance. As would most people here. Maybe!
Mk2 NA Rev1 -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev2 -*- Mk1 NA -*- Mk2 Turbo Rev 3 = all gone!

Yes.

Liberty,
Speaking of moaning, why are moaning about IIcause and his concern for his paintwork. Surely with a name like liberty your more concerned about greenpeace issues??
I'm assuming liberty is your AKA from your profile?
Love it
