Complete audio rewire

Post by heathy »

Right im sick of the standard mr2 speakers and amp so have invested in a sony 4 channel amp and 2 17cm components for the front and 2 10cm speakers for the rear I am going to rewire everything but just one question...
RCA leads come with rca plugs on both sides but I wont have wires on the back of my head unit, do I just cut off the plugs on the head unit side and plug in the amp size, also are these speakers the right size
thanks

audio rewire

hi m8, if ive read your post right, you say your head unit has nowhere to plug your amps rca leads into, so if you want to connect them you cant simply cut the plugs off (this would just knacker your leads) to connect your amp you will have to sacrifice your rear speakers m8, because you need to fit a device that your local audio supplier will have or can get that wires to your rear left and right speaker wiring and converts the signals on a circuit board attached to rca connectors that your amp leads will connect to, dead easy to do just four wires to connect to speaker wires from head unit and plug rca's into sockets on end of the new wires. dont have rear speakers in my 2 and dosent really affect sound to much as my two 12" subs would drown them out anyway, if you want to do this and cant get a connector or audio place is unsure what you need i have a spare one from an earlier install, in working order i could find out and post you for a small cost to cover postage, hope this is of some help, if ive missunderstood your post, then ignore this post and the fool that wrote it ! #-o , jim

thanks for your reply mate, I think I have seen them things but why would I have to sacrifice my rear speakers? My amp has 4 inputs so couldnt I just use 4 of the connectors? theres a pic to show what I mean below

Hi, i would say that you would be best getting a new headunit, one with front and rear RCA out inputs. You can probably pick a decent one off ebay up for 30-40 quid, this will save you a lot of hassle and money in parts trying to convert!
This way headuunit - RCAs -Amp - Normal wire - Speakers !!!

hiya, you would sacrifice rear speakers because the connector to patch your rca's to at the head unit would be wired to the rear speaker cables so you wouldnt be able to connect the rear speakers to the head unit, like i said connecter is cheap and quick, but a compromise, but if you have the money then i agree with neil, a new headunit with rca outputs is really the best way to go, sorry if i wasnt to clear with other post, jim :D

if you have two new units already installed then im stumped as to why you dont have wires/outputs on head unit to connect rca's to :-k . should simply plug in back of head unit front/rear output, then plug into amp at left/right input m8, jim
