There is a performance hit to all the filters...just remember that. No problem doing the really really common ones but we do not want to be adding ones for just the odd mistake.

Does it permanently edit the text or is it stored as the original and changed on-the-fly every time? If the latter, can it not be changed to the former? (For performance)

I permanent changes it when it stores it to the DB...but it has to process each filter before it can store it..not a huge issue just do not want have 100's of them running.

I actually purposefully type "t eh" rather than "the" sometimes so i miss the hit to my indidivuality. ;)

Interestingly my RSS feed still shows the topic title as "TEH for the swear filter" so maybe it stores the original in the database and runs the swear checking at runtime, which would show up quite a big performance hit on the server with high number of words for it to look up

damn those rewrites  above I meant t eh! (without spaces). Actually it seems its just the subject stays original in the DB and gets checked each time, and the thread text is rewritten DB level

I type t eh sometimes also. I think certain fingers are faster then others

I try to proof read what I've written to make sure though.

With Don't, wasn't etc I can't be bothered with the ' so I just leave it as dont and wasnt. Lazy me! lol

Does it definitely write the changed word to the db? I just entered a word and it was edited by the filter, I decided it looked wrong and edited the post to change the word completely, within teh post I was editing the original word was sitting there, in my eyes that means the original word was written to the db and the filters change things on the fly every time..?

Edit: I put the word "t e h" in the above post, when viewing the post it has changed to "t h e", but when editing it again reverts back to the original "t e h" - can these filters not be changed to edit the words and write them to the db permanently to save them running every time the thread is viewed..?

I will have to double check on how it works...I have only seen the check when it is writing to the DB and not reading so always persumed it was a permanent change.
