Nurburgring

Post by sid1789 »

There's talk of a few of us (on MR2OC) going to Nurburgring in early July 2006. Anybody interested? (only at the 'I might be interested stage at the mo')

I am interested :D

Just mr2's or any other cars in the convoy? I have some mates who are non mr2 drivers but want to go next year.

The usual first outing is Easter... but no harm booking early...

Trouble is... they don't tend to advertise the calander until late feb (Easter is always a good bet though)

- lets hope there are more full weekends next year.

I don't see why they can't be other cars, as long as there's more MR2s

Cheers Sid.

There will very probably be a trip like the one I ran this year and the previous years ... but the Nurburgring public opening times/ Calendar for 2006 won't be published until February next year so its not possible to plan exact dates for a trip until then. This year was particularly bad especially in September with no full weekends at all :(

I think we can safely say though that yes, there will be a trip there at some point next year.

As for an Easter trip - the TOC did one last year that had a good turn out.

Personally I don't do the Easter trip as the weather up in the Eiffel mountains at Easter will be very changeable and cold - there's a good chance of rain or even snow at Easter, and ice in the mornings.

I wouldn't want to spend £600 just to find the track covered in snow or frost whilst I was there - but I dare say I could spend the 'ring ticket money instead on a few choice Weissbeers :D

Hi Ben,

Thats why I don't really want to go around easter :D . I suppose the best bet is to book as soon as the calendar is published in Feb. I've never been before (wouldn't be quite the same going round the 'ring in a landcruiser  ) but been thinking about it ever since I've had me tubby :)

I'm up for this. It will be good to get the tubby up to speed legally on those autobahns and on the circuit.

Sounds good!

I was supposed to be going to the ring for a charity run with Unicef but the management at the magazine I work for thought who would be interested in reading about a big track in germany.

Easter Ring trips

EDITED TO PROTECT PEOPLE FROM BAD WEATHER

AND TO AVOID OVER-CROWDING AT TARMAC HEAVEN

I have been visiting the Nurburgring Nordschleife for a few years now and .........................................I have seen very heavy snow, lost track time and experienced snow flurries even before we had chance to go on track, so to avoid such conditions.....DO NOT GO AT EASTER!

Next year Easter w/e is from Fri-Mon so there may be weather all that weekend so...DO NOT GO SO AS TO ENSURE YOU MISS THE SNOW

Speaking of snow, it will by my fifth Easter - 5 will figure prominently in other ways next year - reaching 50 - and a few more laps that w/e for total of 500 around The Green Hell

So all that will make Easter pretty special - perhaps experiencing five sorts of weather, but the trouble is, I am planning all this from NZ and at this point I do not have a car sorted for the l - o - n - g weather filled Easter w/e

So I am now looking for a snow car and trying to finalise a deal on 4WD family car that will cope with all that weather and the snow that may cover the whole area and discourage track time by others, but I will not care about the weather, even all that snow!

Asuming the car is sorted I should be out there, fighting the blizzards, at 0800 every day over Easter w/e barring a clash with 'Johan Vegas' and possible after effects

And nice to see Paul Port posting about more visits and doing more laps there - well done Paul, I see practice seems to get your laps better and I guess you must have been enjoying it more

But if any of you are worried about the weather and all that snow then do not go at Easter!

Chris,

If you'd seen the queues in Sept - you would NOT be encouraging anyone else to come along. [-X Forget weather - I lost several days due to ridiculous numbers of people. Place is ruined.
