Oil pump removal.

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the oil pump with:

1, The oil pump pulley attached
2, the 2nd idler pulley attached?

I'm having trouble getting the above off and the head of the bolts/nuts is starting to round off. I dont want to have to cut the bolts off if I can help it!

It all comes off as one unit. There are 12 bolts in total and 1 is actually hidden under the idler pulley so you need to remove the idler pulley to get to it. The unit comes away in one part. There are 3/ 4 bolts holding the oil pump to the rest of the assembly. Ideally don’t undo these as the whole pump will fall apart and you don’t want to damage anything if you plan to reuse it. Check the BGB it marks the bolts that need to be undone to get the whole assembly off.

If you can wait till later I can send you a picture which marks the bolt you don’t need to undo to get the pump off the block.

Hi,

The service manual say's to take both pulleys off....

I'll leave the oil pump pulley alone then. I still cannot get the idler pulley bolt off though. The car has had some work done previously and whoever did the bolts up have over tightened a few of them......

I think I'm going to have to grind the head off the bolt, then drill the rest of the bolt out after the oil pump is off.

this is a real pain in the ar$e and is by far the hardest problem I have come accross whilst taking the engine out/appart!!

The 2nd idler pulley bolt does undo anti-clockwise doesnt it???

The best way to get any bolt off is to attaché a ring spanner around it, lock the pulley anyway you can and smash the spanner with a rubber mallet. This shocks the bolt loose and its a lot easier than trying to torque the bolt loose.

If you can’t get the crank pulley bolt loose then get a wrench with a long handle and with a suitable socket attach it to a flywheel bolt. Lock the wrench so it goes against the direction of travel. Have it so the handle rests on the ground / hard surface. Get a ring spanner on the crank pulley bolt and hit it hard with the rubber mallet.

It took me 10 good smashes with the rubber mallet and the bolt gradually came loose.

Don’t drill it as the bolt goes into the crank itself.

Then you will need a puller to lift the pulley off the crank.

In the manual it looks like it's undone clockwise.....??

As the pulley turns anti-clockwise I thought it would undo clockwise??
